One of budiies asked me to teach him about flyfishing. It was a great day for both him and me. He knew absolutely nothing about the sport and was interested in learning all about it. He recently got a new job with the Colorado Dept of Fish and Game tagging, surveying and studying native warmwater fish in the streams here on the Front Range. All his co-workers fish and he's caught the bug to go fishing with them.
I showed him all about the equipment here at home - flys, rods, reels, flyline, leaders - etc. and then we went to Jax sporting goods to look at new stuff and buy a fishing license. Then off to the park for a lesson in flycasting. He caught on in no time and within an hour or so he was casting well enough to go forth and slay fish
or catch and release them.
It's a great feeling to mentor someone on a sport I've enjoyed my entire life. I learned how to flycast when I was 5 or 6 years old with my dad's bamboo flyrod and a woven greased line in the driveway at home. Been enjoying it ever since.
