Check your e-mail if you applied. GregW phoned me to let me know it was up.

I drew 34 first season. Woo-Hoo! Especially since all I got in CO was another preference point.

Thanks,

Its not the best unit in the state for big horns but it does have alot of deer. Killed a decent buck in that same unit last year.

Greg drew same unit and season, so there will be lots of note comparing.

I drew the first hunt in unit 51. It's a large unit with lots of deer and elk, and a short drive from my house, so I'm pleased. I haven't decided for sure, but I think I will use my M-70 270. I want to try the 110 gr. Barnes TSX.

Wow! I drew a first rifle hunt in 2B.

Anyone done that one before? Any intel would be great.

Best of luck to everyone else on the draw. Apps were down I heard due to the money up front rule change so this year should be better to everyone that entered.

According to the web site, I drew both my first choice elk hunt (a bull tag in 16D) and my second choice deer hunt (a muzzle loader tag in 27) and I have not seen an e-mail yet--curious.

I don't have any personal experience in 2b, but I knew a kid who considered it the best bow hunting spot in NM. He said there aren't a lot of access roads, so plan on hiking to the best spots. Get some good maps. Good luck!

Thanks Pallis,

I planned on hiking in a good ways. Few roads too, which is great.

I'm excited already...

I drew 2B rifle 3rd week. Great unit, this will be my second hunt there. Going with compass west outfitters again. Big advantage considering Chris lives in the unit.

the trucks you saw may have been oil field pickups.
everywhere in 2b is very busy during rifle season.
forest road 310 especially looks like a small city of 32 miles with campers parked everywhere.

only way to get away from the road hunter, out of staters as well, is to go behind the locked gates.

Yeah I saw the oil field workers as well, but these were hunters! Most campers were on the left side of that main highway!

Haven't hunted there in several years, but we had plenty of company (hunters) the last couple of years that we were drawn. Splattermatic is correct--get about an hour in on foot and you will have the area to yourself.

We saw way more elk than deer every year that we hunted it, but could never get drawn. I finally just started putting it down as my second choice for elk about ten years ago and still haven't been successful...
