I have always used RL19 and it has been a great powder for both the 225 grain accubonds and more recently the 215 grain sierras. For some reason, RL 19 seems to work in most 338WM's.
Experience is something you get, just after you needed it.

It's my favorite cartridge. RL22 is the powder I go to in order to check accuracy and get the best velocity. It's a bit temperature sensitive for me and most of the other rifles I've owned in that chambering have also liked H4831 which is also temperature tolerant. N160 has also worked in a few. The standard for me is RL22 followed by H4831.

My " go to" load for my .338 mag. is 73 gr. of Rldr-22 and a 225 gr. NorthFork. This combo gives me right at 2800 fps and smacks moose now! I suppose I could go a few more grains of powder but why? Accuracy is quite acceptable at around 1" at 100 yds. As to velocity changes in colder temps, I dunno since I've never tested for it and it doesn't really mean much to me. Bear in Fairbanks

One of my favorites, too, & RL22 is my powder for 250's. 225 work equally well with either '22 or 19, & for the 200/210's I like '19 a bit better than '22. MM

RL-19 is what I use. jorge

You did not mention what you will be hunting, but I had been working on 338 loads for a trip to Africa. I tried a lot of different bullets and powders and came up with RL19 behind a Barnes 210Gr TSX-BT. I had decided to take only one rifle for plains game animals and couldn't have been more pleased with the results.
I killed 10 animals from Impala to Wildebeest to Kudu and every shot was thru and thru. I actually wanted to recover some bullets, but never could. In that part of Africa, if you draw blood, you bought it. Very pleased to say that I did not hit anything that we could not recover.
The RL19 with Barnes 210Gr TSX-BT proved to be very accurate and effective and made a believer out of me.

I use older data with 4350 if I want max velocity out of one..
however I find with most applications..4064, RL15 etc.. give me what I need..
that considered, I'd try RL 17 over 19 and 22..the later two I think are a hair too slow for the 338 Mag..

Current load is 225 Grain Interbond or SST over 70 grains of H4350 for near on 2900 fps. Recently tried Rel19 just to see what all the fuss was about, accuracy is at least as good and probably better with the Rel19.

Don that is the exact load (73gr RL-19 Fed 210 primers 2930fps) I plan to use on my next trip over there, thanks! I even plan to use it on leopard. jorge

My favorite, in five .338s over the last 30 years is 73 gr/IMR 4350/Fed 215/Nosler 210 gr Partition. Have not shot Africa, but this one won't stay in an elk.

jorge,
The only difference I see is that I used 72.0 Gr of RL-19 and GM 215 Federal primers. (P.S. I was shooting a Custom Remington Model 700, for whatever that is worth.)

With mention of not wishing to hijack this thread, my curiosity, is winning....
Why do H1000 and Retumbo not get mentioned more often, it seems their burn-rate would be a good constant filled-case match? If I may ask?

Don, for years I used 215s with that load then a friend of mine who is a big time reloader told me the engineers at Federal said to try the 210s. Believe it or not the groups tightened up consistenly with no loss in velocity. Try it! jorge

IME, they are both a bit too slow in this case for optimum results........... MM
