Being a bit lazy I was hoping the Campfire could help me out on some research. I've got a rifle project in mind that would come in handy with an impending move. However, from the research I've done it would work best in either a single shot or a centerfeed/single stack bolt action. Which current bolt guns are set up with a centerfeed/single stack magazine? Thanks in advance.

Remington 700 with HS DBM, or several other ones.

The newer Savages are centerfeed but staggered below the top round.

Thanks fellas. I'm moving back to IN, so am thinking of putting together a 358 WSSM. Thinking of bolt options. May have to consider an A7 if I can find one cheap enough or even the Savage. I'll leave the carbon X bolts for someone else.

Remington 788's were all single stack too.

Go the Browning X-Bolt

Im really happy with my Browning X-Bolt, Stainless Stalker (.325WSM) and Im more than happy to recommend this rifle to anyone remotely interested in this type of package. Its light, its low recoiling (I think largely thanks to the inflex pad it just works), its very accurate (I think this is largely thanks to the barrel and feather trigger system). Most importantly, its reliable.

Yep.

The 788 would be an economical and accurate action to work with.

I think getting a fat ass WSSM to work right in a 788 Mag would be quite a joy.

You're right Scott.
Be hard to get the WSSM to work in the T3, the A7, the CZ527, and probably the rest of those mentioned with the exception of a Browning.

What if the T3 and/or A7 were set up as WSM's to beging with? I hear the Savages work well enough. Heck, I may just go single shot and be done with it.

358 isn't legal in Indiana for deer hunting, a 358 WSSM is. It's about length.
