RWS Diana model 34 in .177 that was bought in the mid-80's when I lived on the shore of a lake in the middle of the woods. The lake was absolutely infested with water snakes and I had a large amount of fun shooting that rifle at those snakes. Even though I was the only human around the lake I felt much better bouncing pellets off the water than I would have rimfires.

I finally admitted defeat this spring and invested in an air rifle scope - just couldn't cut it with the open sights anymore.

The Model 34 still receives favorable reviews as a great entry level rifle. If I were buying one today it would be a .20 or .22.

Mine has always shot best with the flat pointed RWS target pellets but they are too light and the flat point does not cut through feathers too well. I spent a fair amount of change last year buying representative samples of a wide spectrum of pellets and have settled on the Beeman Crow-Magnums as the best compromise of accuracy and performance.

Have a good day man. In honor of personal freedom and the open squirrel season, I think I'll go put a hole through dinner's head.

I grew up with a sheridan then went to a FWB 124 in the mid 70s. Now with the slection of pellets available I'm back to the same sheridan.

I have my brother in laws Crossman which is a break barrel spring gun with a wood stock and came with a real low dollar scope and sights with the rear on the pivot point of the barrel similar to a scout rifle. .177 cal. I tried to upgrade it with an older Burris fixed power 22 scope and had no luck. This gun shoots, as Irons groups are good but the first replacement scope I tried just would not give repeatable accuracy. So I picked up a Fixed BSA which was labeled for air guns with reverse recoil. Still battling this gun.

Would like to get it dead on for back yard pest control and to return to him when he returns from his service commitments.

Any ideas/ info greatly appreciated.

Would it make sense to try a vxII off a slug shotgun? (God i'd hate to have to sight in that 870 again.........!)

I used to only shoot shotguns and rimfires, then I made the mistake of getting a subscription to handloader.......

a couple of things to consider:1) airguns have slow lock times and the time it takes the bullet to leave the barrel is longer than you're used to with a firearm so you have to hold on target longer after the trigger break 2) guns can be really pellet sensitive to both brand, weight and conformity. I find my FWB springer to be a hell of a lot more fussy than my old sheridan. The FWB is more accurate but for plinking and pest control I use the sheridan.

Daisy Red Ryder....BSA Meteor 177.....drooled over Benji's and Sheridan's....pump and co2....later RWS 28 - 177, RWS 34 - 22, R9 -5mm, FWB 124D, and son's R7 177. Admired Crosman 140 and many other rifles/pistols by Crosman and Daisy i.e. 790 that are no longer mfg. Old 760s (wood stocks) and 880/881 were classics.

Beeman and Air Rifle Headquarters in the 80s was inspiring re: air guns.

DJ....have to drool at precision like that! PUre Porn.. poison on small game and paper I am sure.

Anyone here using a Steyr.......air/co2?

I have a Diana 34 by RWS. It's a hard hitting very accurate varmint killer. I have rid my home of pests for years. I have occasionally had a cat come over and bother my cat at night or decide to start using my flower beds a their latrine. Never have had a fatality until yesterday. Found the offending feline in the alley a few houses down. No collar, looks like a stray. I hope. I was aiming for the hind but at the last second the thing made a turn and I nailed it right in the boiler. Just behind the shoulder. If I were hunting a deer or Elk, it would have been the perfect location. Had a feeling when the thing went straight up and landed in the pool we had a problem. It went over the fence and was gone, and never to be heard from again. I thought. Wife finds it the next day.
OOOPS............:(

Walther LGR. Made for Olympic 10m shooting. They had to shrink the target size when this gun came out, they were so ahead of their predecessors.

You can find these for around $400-500 nowadays, one pump and you're ready.

Like someone above said, a VERY accurate gun with a Great trigger is always a joy to shoot, whether centerfire, rimfire, or pellet.

I picked up a scoped stainless steal Diana at a yard sale for $75. I originally bought it to resell as it was a smoking hot deal. I ended up keeping it because it was a tack driving machine. I can take starlings out to 30 yards with out thinking about it.
