Seafire, I highly favored them yrs. ago when scopes were not my mainstay as they are now. I just got in 200 rnds of 250 grn. RN Hornady for my Rem.30 338-06 that has a 19 3/4" bbl. I too liked to use them in my 9.3x62 but many yrs. back when a youngster the 220's in the aught six was preferred....so now I am back.

I just today got in 2 boxes of 175gr RN for the 7x57. I may try some 180s in my 308 as well.

I've never shot anything here at a distance where a spitzer would have helped, so a RN makes good sense.

I use a lot of RN bullets in the 35Rem, 358Win, 35Whelen, and 350RM. Two favorites are the 200 & 250 Hornady along with the Speer 220gr FT.

I have a couple of buddies that I load 308(150)& 30/06(180) for and they both insist on Hornady RN.

I'll also put my vote in on RN in certain calibers - I really like them in the older cartridges like the 6.5x55. I have found that the 160 gr Hornady's are very accurate. Haven't tried RN in any other calibers.

My old man will not use anything in his 300 Savage except the 180 pumkins. He bought up a bunch of corelokts and I picked up a few hundered 180 Hornady RNs for when his corelokts run out.

I purchased a Winchester Model 670 years ago and far and away the most accurate bullet for this 30-06 is the Sierra 180 grain round nose. I did a ton of bullet/powder range testing with this rifle and 49gr of IMR 4064 does the trick without exception.

Hey!! Come on guys!! You all know those old round nosed bullets won`t shoot. That is why I have a retirement home established just for THEM!! This is for 6.5, .25 only. Send me your tired and poor.

I miss heavy RN bullets. They ARE more accurate (at least in my rifles).

Started loading the 220gr hornady interloc in my rainforest rifle last year. 20" 300 win mag sure puts them exactly where you point them. Now if the elk/bear/deer will stand still this year.

The best group that I ever shot was with Sierra 180 gr. RN out of a 300 win. mag. 3 shots. 1 hole @ 100 yds.. You had to look very close to see the other 2 shots.

Aside from the 30 WCF, I run RNs in my 257 AI (Hornady 117s), 7x57 (Hornady 175), peep-sighted Springfield 03-A3 (Hornady 180 & Speer 200s), and 338-06 (Hornady 250). The only hunting loads I run through the Springfield are RNs.

Many say they're good for "short range" only, but they'll keep up fine w/ pointed bullets out to 300 yards all things being equal. For a Michigan deer hunter who hasn't shot game much beyond 100 yards that top end is not so "short".

I've found them to provide more reliable terminal performance than pointed bullets in a wider variety of game, including coyote.

I've not jumped on the premium and ultra-premium bullet bandwagon because I've never had issues with "old fashioned" bullets.

Just saw this thread; makes me glad I picked up a couple boxes of Fed Powershok .270 150RNs at Wally World yesterday. I figured for $13.97 I couldn't go wrong and Powershok shoots sub-in. in every caliber I use it in.

Getting my ol' Mountain Rifle out this year. It's lain silent since an antelope hunt eight years ago. Was gonna fool with some Fed Prem 110 TSX, but at three times the cost and given most deer shots I've had around here are well under 100 yards, I'll let them wait to see if antelope may come up this fall.

Wish Wally would start carrying Powershok .223 and .22/250...

I have been using them for many years, 220 gr inmy .06. and have killed more than a fw elk with them, 180 gr in my.308 also.
A few years ago,I dumped two cow elk in about 5 seconds at 347 lasered yds with the 220 gr.

Except for two 35 Whelen's, a 338 Win Mag and 338-06 I abandonded the round nose bullets years ago.
