I like the angled, especially from a bench, but once you're used to it it's just as easy to use an angled scope in the field and its easier to get a comfortable head position for extended viewing. There's a reason they're more popular with birders than the straight variety. I don't use my spotter out of my truck, but I imagine the angled would be better there too.

Well, I use mine mostly on the bench and prefer the angled eye piece.

I'm surprised at the almost 100% concensus here. I myself prefer an angled for all the reasons stated, but I can remember a similar thread a few years ago that went twenty seven pages of very-very heated debate, with neither side giving an inch. I don't want to stir it up, just surprised at the total agreement that angled is the best.

My first spotting scope was straight, because I though it was easier to locate your target than with an anled one, which is probably true.
I used it until I hunted with a guy that used and angled one, that I found so much better.
First, it was much more comfortable to look through than the straight, and was so much easier on my neck.
And second, it allowed to use the tripod in a lower position, as you look from above and do not need to be eye level with the ocular, which is aleasy more stable, and makes you show less bulk and lower profile for the animals to see you.
I have been upgrading my spotter fromthose early days, but used and angled ocular ever since.
Just my two cents.

I have both types, and far prefer the angled spotter for all types of shooting and hunting.
