To night on the local new I heard about a law suit against a large local employer, The Oberto Sausage Company, the suit is being brought by nine muslim women. These women contend that Oberto fired them unjustly due to their religious beliefes. These muslims wanted to take their breaks at sunset during the holy month of Ramadan. Oberto said no because they all work on a production line and taking breaks during that period of time would disrupt production. Oberto did offer them posistions in other departments that would be condusive to their needs. They declined. When these women left their posts at sunset to go pray with out concent of the employer they were terminated. This occoured in 2003 and have now brought suit against Oberto for religious descriminaion.
So this begs the question: These women work in a sausage factory that uses pork in it's products. Pork is a product forbidden in the muslim religion but these women work with it in some form or another I am rather certain of that. So how come if they are going against their religious beliefs working with pork they think they should be allowed to disrupt production of the sausage line to go pray. UNFUGGING BELIEVABLE

Turn them into Polish sausage and send them back to Iraq wrapped in a diaper....stamped praise Allah!
There is an estimated 1 million Iraqi citizens living in the US that are registered to vote in the Iraqi elections via absentee ballot!

You should see how much waste goes into meeting the religious "needs" of muslim prisoners in CA during Ramadan.

FWIW:

The US Supreme Court heard an Oregon Case regarding a person who took Peyote as part of a religous ceremony (Native American).

The US Supreme Court only went so far as to say that the plaintinff counld not be denied unemployment on that basis. Essentially, the gov't ageny was not allowed "grade" or "judge" the religion.

The rule: If you are fired for violating a work rule, and you violated the work rule in order to comply with a religous practice, you can get unemployment.

As far as it goes, this is AOK.

But . . . . . . .

For 10 years, lawyers seeking a Big Win have tried to exploit the case against private employers. I have not heard of anyone winning the case. I have not even heard of some of these people getting their jobs back.

Time will tell how this case goes.

How would you feel about a Christian refusing to work a Sunday shift?

Christains have too much Christianity to pull that, BC. Don't you know the Lord healed on the Sabbath? That means we can provide for our family too, if need be.

Mac, that would be Florida North, AKA, Seattle where you can vote as many times as you want even after you are dead.
