I've replaced the Williams FoolProof on my USRAC/Miroku 1886 with a FastFire ll on a mount that Doug Turnbull is making. It work beautifully ... low, compact and fast. For my tired, old eyes it's a blessing. The Turnbull crew also eliminated the hated tang safety/rebounding hammer mess and returned the action to J. Browning's design. No hint the the welding can be seen, and the trigger is now excellent. Always a fun rifle to shoot, now the fun factor has soared.

This is a hunting rifle, not a show piece. Should a great tool for the river bottom where I hunt moose.

What did the Turnbull work cost? I would think he could do quite well with returning rebounding hammers and lawyer buttons back to normal.

Turnbull charged $350 for the conversion. I had them work over the trigger ($150) and repair the flimsy fore-end hanger ($100). Prices aren't cheap, but fair for a smith at the top of his trade. I can find no trace of the filled-in tang safety slot. Nice work.

Found out it is listed at 4moa. Specs say paralex free out to 50yds. Have you shot it further than that? If so did you notice any bad paralex problems? Thinking shots to 100 150yds max.

The specs with mine says the dot covers 2 moa. Have shot it a 100 yd targets without difficulty. Consider it to be up to 200 yds on moose, my intended use.

IMO 2MOA would be better, is yours a fastfire or a fastfire II ?

Up to 200yds, sounds about perfect!

I stand corrected. I looked again at my FFll ... it is a 4 moa dot. You are correct sir.

I still consider my 45/70 w/ FFll to be a 200 yd moose rifle. The '86 w/ FFll is a blast to shoot.

I would think so, 4moa at 200yds is 8 inches so that is about the size of the vitals of a moose at 200yds right? How has the reddot performed in varring light conditions?

444 ....

I've messed with it in the pitch dark last Spring, (doesn't get dark at night right now in my neighborhood), and the red dot was highly visible. It did, though, flicker a little, but not enough to be a problem. For my old, tired eyes, it is the answer.

The dot seems to automatically adjust it's brightness to the ambient light level.

At that price I wouldn't watch it too long!

Beautiful rifle, and the sight doesn't detract to bad from the beauty, but more importantly, turns it into a minute of moose shooter!
