What do you put in your GORP Trailmix?

I have Raisins, mixed nuts, M&Ms, dehydrated blueberries and sometimes pieces of jerky.

I have thought of adding yogurt covered raisins, but not sure how long they would hold up in the heat.

I know some of you have some great ingrediets to your GORP, so share if you plaease!

Forever I've called mine "CRAP"... Chocolate, Raisins AND Peanuts.

Equal parts M&M's, Raisins and un-salted peanuts...

I just buy an "energy mix", which contains a couple of types of nuts, a few different seeds and raisins. I also buy some choc budsand some dried bananas.

I'll toss all sorts of stuff in mine- whatever I can grab at the store:

Dried/candied papaya and pineapple that I dice myself (and toss in cornstarch to take away the stickiness), M&Ms, sunflower seeds (shelled!), pine nuts, raisins (regular or white), dried cranberries, dry-roasted peanuts, Tollhouse-style chocolates (milk, dark, white, etc.), cashews, chocolate-covered raisins, ...

I do the same except I use mixed nuts. However, after gorging on the stuff for a couple days, I start having flatulence problems. The nuts start getting to me.

I love feeding those birds when I'm sitting around camp. Like having a pet.

Don't use it any more. That's because they have very little complex carbohydrates in them.
Power Bars and Cliff Bars work much better. They have lots of complex carbs. E

How do you know if an "energy bar" has complex carbos? Does the package state that or do you have to do some research.

Read the labels, if the ingredients lists high in sugar, corn syrup, sucrose, white flour, fructose they'll contain simple carbohydrates. There is a good possibility if these ingredients are listed near or at the top or say "high in", they probably contain mostly simple carbohydrates, & not much else.

You can find most of your complex carbs in vegetables, nuts, beans, potatoes, whole grains, oat meal, and nuts.

Supposedly over 66% of the carbohydrates in Clif Bars are complex carbohydrates

Brad, funny stuff!!!

Macrabbit, good ideas to "mix" it up a bit!

Junior, great list!

I use the GORP or CRAP, in conjuction with bars as it just gives you a little different flavor on those long hunts.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing!!!

Over and above the normal nuts and fruit I like pumpkin seeds, pepitas, soy nuts, mini M&M's, dates, dried cherries, candied nuts, For a deluxe touch I toss in some blueberry muesli! You'll never go back to regular gorp! I've found candied/chocolate covered sunflower seeds and Trader Joe's for something different also. I've a bit of a sweet tooth!

GORP is Good Old Raisins and Peanuts. Everything is trail mix!

I like GORPMM - GORP with M&Ms... equal parts raisins, peanuts and M&Ms.

For whatever reason, the Costco trail mix of raisins, MMs, cashews, peanuts, and almonds is mixed just right. I like a big handful before bed - seems to help me sleep warm.

I like Walmart's bags of GORP! Is good and priced right. I can not buy the stuff to do it for that. They even have the individual packages, a bit more, but convenient.

All packaged items must list the amounts of "other carbohydrates" and sugars per serving.
If you want to know what the complex carbs come from, then read the ingredient list on the food label.
It also is important to know how they interact with things like fiber and fats. Both slow the rate of absorbtion into the blood stream. Power Bars have a quickly digested complex carb makeup with little fat and fiber. Cliff Bars, on the other hand, uses stuff that is absorbed more slowly and has more fat and fiber to further slow the converson rate of complex carbs to blood sugar. E

Power bars and Cliff bars taste like $#^*! I'll take a pack or two of fatty, quick burst after lunch snack GORP. For each is their own. I am making my own power bars now with oats, Whey Powder, etc and they taste good and have all natural stuff. The 2-eggs are the only thing that will spoil and since they are cooked, last plenty long.

GORP Rocks!

Good Shooting!
