I just moved into a small town(Lino Lakes, MN) about 20 mi. North of Minneapolis.

Yesterday the voted to make English the official language of the city, and charge extra for copies of city documents that are in anything other than english. It's a good start.

Of course the demacraps are already all over this as discrimination.

City officials said can save the city thousands potentially.

It is the first city in MN to do this, I hope it sticks.

Discrimination my ass, all business, political and educational offering should only be done in English, unless it is a class for school!

IMO, English as the offical language anywhere in the US should be a given, not something that needs to be voted on.

Really? Geez, New Mexico better change it's constitution to meet your sensibilities (it defines New Mexico as bi lingual Spanish - English).

Dutch - In case you don't know "IMO" means "in my opnion". And that is what I was stating, my opnion. I know New Mexico is defined as bi-lingual. It has nothing to do with a lack of knowledge, as you seem to think. If you don't like my opnion, too bad. Personal attacks on someone's opnion is pretty lame.

That means that a plethora of air crews and air-traffic-controllers � from dozens of countries, cultures, ethnic origins, and native languages � have to be fluent in spoken and written American English.

Makes sense. Isn't "racism" or "discrimination," just practical.

(BTW, not all discrimination is unjust racial or ethnic discrimination. Most discrimination is just good sense. Just ask the FDA or the CDC&P. Discrimination includes being careful what you eat, for example.)

Now now Kameraden lets not open ourselves to charges of discrimination. Why not just make the law reciprocal with the persons country of origin,lets see now how does Mexico for example handle these matters.

I'm sure plenty of folks will, myself included.

The sooner the better on the send their a$$es home but some times it fun to point out how their government would treat us were the circumstances reversed. I would love to see a reciprocal law passed and watch them try to explain why its only discrimination if we do it.

A few years ago I went to a conference in Miami. One of the attendees brought her family along. One of her kids got very sick very fast. She took her kid to the nearest hospital emergency room. No one there, not a reception desk worker, an EMT, a nurse or a doctor, spoke English. Might as well have been in Cuba. This is what happens when you don't have an official language.

If I moved to Mexico, I'd learn Spanish. If to France, I'd learn French. If to Enland, I'd even learn the Queen's English. Therefore, if they move here, I expect them to learn American English.
