This is a 1973 336 30-30. Has a chip in the rear stock, and the receiver and barrel have a patina look to it. I figure I may refinish the stock, re-blue the barrel, and polish the receiver and barrel band to a brushed stainless type finish. What do you guys think? To much work or money?

Doesn't sound like an exhorbitantly high price, maybe a bit high. I don't think that year/model is anything "special", though, so wouldn't be worth a premium price. If the bore is good and the mechanics are sound, it would be a serviceable rifle. It is not a collecter, so refinishing any of it would not decrease value. The 30-30 is classic - probably has killed as many game animals as any other caliber in the USA - if you don't have a rifle in that caliber, you may want more after getting one. I guess it depends how bad you want one and how much work you want to put into it. Doesn't sound like you'd get hurt much by buying it at that price.

Well it turns out he wants $245 shipped to me in state. For that price, I have found several nicer 336's with scopes for $250 or so around here. May be worth more of my time then.

Just a little info to ad for you.

I bought my 1955 336 with Williams FP receiver sight and 1/8" gold bead front post, in mint condition with a perfct bore, for 225 off of GunBroker.

You might want to keep looking. You might do better.

Having said that the shipping might begin to get out of control on you if the next rifle is too far away?!
