I finally got around to picking up some 140g Amax's in 6.5mm. Have any of you guys used them on deer before? I've avoided them for a while because the box says 1:7.5 twist and all of my 6.5's are 1:9.

Anyways, I tried a few in my 264 win mag and they are showing some potential at 3150-3200 fps. I drew a rifle tag for Idaho's unit 54 and I'm planning on using the 264. The only buck I've shot with the 264 was with a 140g Hornady sp at 3200fps muzzle. Range was only 150 yards or so and the bullet blew right though showing little expansion until right as it exited.

I'm liking the high BC of the Amax and hoping for more expansion than the soft point but don't want it to totally explode on impact if I end up getting a closer shot.

shot this with a 264WM and 140Amax, only running 3050 in that load. didn't pass all the way through at 70 yards but it was under the hide on the off side. i'd use it again.

I would not use the Amax on deer shot one with the 140 gr. Amax at about 100 yards it came apart on impact. Had to track it for 100 yards and put a nother shot in it. I would use the 140 vld that is what I shoot now in .260,6.5x55 & 6.5x284. The white tale in OK. are not big.

he was a toad for sure! we estimated him at a conservative 180 field dressed. most of the other decent bucks we shot weren't anywhere near as big and tipped the scales at 125'ish...
