Picked up a pound of 780 Supreme and was very pleased with the accuracy in my 7MM WSM. It weighs out very well since it's a ball type powder and seems to burn very clean. Do any of you guys use it regularly? I guess it's so slow it's only good for the magnum stuff and it must be pretty new. I like the H1000 in this caliber too. Opinions? Thanks, Blowtorch

I used 68.5 gr Supreme 780 and 150 gr Partitions going 3150 fps to take this NM bull at about 320 yds. Very good velocity - over two grains below listed max, and good, repeatable accuracy. I like it. I think it will work well with heavier bullets in say 270/284 win cartridges.

Loaded some .270 win. with 57 up to 60 gr. of Supreme 780. (the max according to Hodgdon) Accuracy was good, but velocity only reached 2900 fps from my 22" model 70 featherweight. With book loads and other powders (H450 and IMR4831) this rifle can reach 3100 fps.
I plan to do more testing with the 780 this spring, since it meters beautifully and is easily available.

Powder is hard to come by easily and at good prices. I searched all over for the 780 for 6 months, got fed up, and organized a group by at my rifle range. I was so excited about this new powder that I bought an 8 pounder!!!

So far I've used it with my 270 WSM and I do like the properties. The ball powder meters great, the pressure stays lower than comparible powders with like velocity, and it delivered the same velocity as Winchester listed. I've also loaded magpro and rl-22 in this rifle for comparision and like the 780 best.

70 GR Magpro w/ 140 gr TSX= 3072 FPS
63 GR RL-22 W/ 150 GR. SST= 2950 FPS
66.5 GR 780 W/ 150 GR. SST= 3050 FPS **This load could have probably went up another grain without pressure signs

I think the only powder that will hold with the 780 in like pressures would be the Retumbo for this caliber. It looks like that powder has to be compressed where the 780 has plenty of room in the case. I got some of that too in the group buy so I got all kinds of loads to work up during the winter hunting lull.

A bit late to this party, but here goes.

I use 780 in a Weatherby Vanguard chambered for the Big 7. 65.5 grains over a 150 grain Corelokt. Accuracy is pretty good, rougly 3-shot 0.75" groups at 100 yards. 5-shot groups print just over an inch.

Not sure about velocities as I don't own a chronograph. I can tell you that the several deer shot using the above load were quickly killed.
