I have two Ruger Mark IIs, one a 4" SS the other a SS bull barrel 5" I think. Both shoot thighter than I can hold. Love those Rugers. Bought my first in 1951 and ran thousands of rounds through it with no problems. Went in the Air Force and don't know what happened to it while I was gone. I have several quality 22LR including a K22, if I could only keep one it would be the 4" Ruger. -- no

After owning 1/2 doz. Ruger 22 autos I've settled on a 4" BB target model as my all-time favorite.
It balances perfect for me, and am able to hit clay pidgens off-had, unbelivebly well at 50 yds.(9 in a row is my record) if I lost all my handguns, this one is the first I would replace, exactly as is. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I'm on my 3rd MKII Ruger, not because I wear em out mind you, I don't think that is possible. I've had 2 standard taper bl 4" models & sold the first plain Jane to upgrade to a 50th ann edition model standard, then sold that one cause I had to slap some emergency nickles down on a special little lever gun (with full intentions of replacing & upgrading the standard MKII) & now I finally brought home my newest MKII, KMK512 (stainless 5 1/2" bull barrel) I got it home last night & played with it for the first time. It was getting dark but I just had to shoot it so I stepped out the back door & ventilated the old burn barrel behind the house with a clip full of mighty long rifles. I love those MKII's & I finally have a target model. I was deadly accurate with my standard 4" taper barrels with standard sights, I cant wait to shoot this thing on a rest to see what sort of group I can get. Go for that ruger & you won't be sorry. I'm going to leave myself open for a good thumping here with my next story but remember, it's a story I'm simply passing along, not a mean opinion or anything, here goes.
A buddy of mine & his wife plink a lot, thousands of rounds some weekends. Well he went out & purchased a pair of buckmarks for him & his wife to plink with. He shot them out in one season. That's what he told me, he said they simply shot them out, wore em out. He replaced them with a pair of target model Rugers & he's never been happier, he figures they simply can not wear one of those MKII's out.

I have a single six and am thinking about a MkII. The MkIII's are now out and I don't really like the loaded chamber indicator on the side of the action, makes the darn thing look ugly (IMHO). Bought the Single Six because auto's are legal for hunting every where and I got a pretty good deal on it here on the campfire. The only thing I don't like about the Single Six's is the darn trigger ... need two mena and a boy to yank that sucker ... way too much for a .22 .... local shoppe charges $35 to smooth it up ... gotta get that done someday soon! The local shoppe has several of the MkII's left, the one I check out each time is the SS MkII with a 5" bull barrel!!! Little over $300.

The 22/45 can be had for significantly less loot than the MkII/III. Shot a Buckmark once ... it seemed ok, but I wasn't wild about it.

I could talk all day on the matter of the loaded chamber indicator & similar features & devices apearing on other firearms. Here's the short version. I feel that mechanical features like this can lead to the erosion of age old standard safety practices such as "treat each & every firearm as if it were loaded at all times" that's a good one, I love it. Now I just see some nimrod picking up a firearm with a chamber indicator & either misreading the indicator or maybe the mechanice of the indicator fail... the nimrod aims the firearm at his buddy or maybe his own head jokingly & accidentaly snaps a cap off....
In one way I suppose it's a nice feature but I'd rather fall back on age old standard safety practices rather than a mechanical indicator to tell me if it's safe or not.
Plu I agree, it's ugly. even though the new magazine release button location is handy I opted for the old MKII over the MKIII in this recent purchase mostly because of that indicator.

A stainless MKII with a 5 1/2" target barrel (bull, not slabsides) should probably average 300 to 325 I suppose (new)
I stole mine at the new in the box price of $274.99

George,
You could also do the "poor man's" trigger job by cutting one "leg" off the trigger spring.

One more vote for the MK II. Mines a 5" bull barreled blue model. My 10 year old daughter and I just had it outside today for a little midwinter target practice. She shoots it amazingly well. Over the years it has handled thousands of rounds and just keeps on a ticking.

I don't own a Sig Trailside, but they sure look like a fine pistol. They are about $100 more now than when they first came out.......what's up with that? Do you know anyone who has one with a lot of shots downrange?......everything holding up ok?
