57 of R22, 7828 would be my second choice and R17 my third, and one of the 4350's my 4th.

My favorite is 61.5 of MagPro behind the 150 Partition.

I clock right around 3000 out of my fast 24" barreled 700KS with that combo.

MagPro has become one of my favorite powders, with great metering, good accuracy, and great velocity.

In my 270AI I've just finished working up a 150gr load with Reloader22, by far the strongest load I've tested.
63.0gr Reloader22 150gr Nosler Ballistic Tip 3100fps inside an inch, good enough for me.

I took a Mulie in CO years back, throat to ham, 275 paces, IMR4350, clocks not so fast at 2850/24", but he did not know it wink

I'd surely look at the H4831 for more speed, and RL22 looks to be a great one also.

+1 for RE22 I have used 56.5 grains with great results. I also have used H4831SC @ 58.0 gr.

My vote goes to H4831. Use enough to get 2900fps or so, that should be about 56grs. I've read that H4831 is temperature insensitive, so that could be a plus. This load shoots great in my rifle, but if I wanted to try another powder it'd be IMR7828.

Many years ago I discovered 57gr of H4831 with either a 150 NP or Speer HC was the load for my Remington 270. Less than MOA out to 400yds.

Another vote for H4831, however all my loads have been with old surplus 4831, the stuff that Jack O'Connor touted. I bought a 150 lbs. Stainless canister of it some years ago and it gets me an extra 100 to 150 FPS over any of todays powders and at less pressure..I use several grains more of it than I do IMR or H4831..When I run out I will probably use H4831 or RL-22 both excellent powders.

The 150 and 160 gr. Nosler Patition are my all time favorite elk bullets in a .270 WCF.

There are some of us who suspect that 7828 might be a reincarnation of the surplus 4831 that Mr Atkinson is referring to. Stuff seems to perform very well in any overbore under the heavier bullets.

CLR 24" barrel, 54 grains of H4831SC, Fed gold medal nickle brass, Fed 210 primer at 2850 fps under MOA.

I was shooting this morning with H-4831 (58 grains) and 150 grain Nosler Partitions. Three consecutive groups averaged .780". I haven't chronographed this load but the same charge weight with 150 grain Hornadys averaged 2970 fps and it seems that Partitions generally chronograph just a hair faster. I'm very happy with this load.

I'm with Dober on this one. 57 gr. of Rldr-22, bullet seated to 0.010" off the lands. Sub 1" groups all day long at about 2930 fps. What's not tot like? Must confess I've been toying with trying the 150 NorthFork but haven't had a chance yet.

57 of R-22 or 55 of H4831sc for me, very accurate in the M70.

Ray, serious question, what's your take between the 150 and 160 PTs? The 160 sure is interesting, ALOT of SD, not that the 150 is not very capable and proven. Always wondered about long range as I think the 160 was a Semi-Spitzer but may be wrong.

Thanks.

Not Ray,

But the 160 Noz has long been one of my favs, I normally run it with R22. It shoots well and works very well. With R22 the bullet normally runs @ 2800 and I have no issues hitting with it at any sane ranges..

Man my barrel must be slow. 58 gr. H4831sc with the 150 PT only gives me 2765 or so. Went up to 59 and got 2815. 59 RL-22 goes 2910. 22" Pac-Nor, you guys may all be running 24" barrels.

I won't do a .270 in a barrel under 24" anymore.

I found that velocity increased 100+fps in my .270 when going from 22" to 24". Different barrels of course so the results are not scientifically valid but Ken Waters found the same 100fps increase in 2" as did JOC.
Never found 2" of extra tube to be burdensome. Next one I build will sport 25 or 26 inches of tube.
