I have an XCR in an Edge that weighs under 6 lbs.
Buy the rifle, dump the laminated stock. Although if it were me, I'd look for one in stainless instead of blue. At under 6 pounds I bet your XCR does not have Remington's heavy contour magnum barrel that is on their 7SAUM .. I have a M7 .260 Rem. stocked in a Wildcat stock (made in Alberta) that weighs around 6.25 pounds scoped with a Simmons 2X7 in Tally Lwt rings..
It's a great life if you don't weaken..

A model seven in 7saum with an edge stock could be just about all the rifle a north american hunter could ever need. Like this one? Yup. I've got two similar to that one. One in 243 and the other in 300 saum but with heavier barrels and beefier stocks. Thinking a lightweight M7 in 260 or 7mm saum may just round out the collection

Mine is about .65 at the muzzle. That is like a standard Remmy sporter contour. I think this is also what the SAUMs have as well, even though they call it a sporter magnum contour.

well, thanks for all the feedback. rifle is priced at $400, but i haven't sealed the deal yet - thinking that re-stocking the rifle w/ an appropriate stock will raise the price to a point i'm not willing to spend... still thinkin' on it.
Hunting is not a matter of life or death. It is much more important than that.

That's a fair price for the rifle if it is not shot much, but I see stainless ones with syn stocks going for the same price.

I replace valve cover gaskets every 50K, if they don't need them sooner...

DD, I'm yet to see a rifle on the Rem web site that comes in at 6lbs. I understand yours is in an Edge, but have you done any other modifications to get below 6lbs? Do you have a pic you can post? CLB
