I have to honestly say, that as much as I enjoy big game hunting, my best times hutning have came from going after small game. Not only does it usually offer a great challenge, there are such a large variety of animals to hunt in any part of the country. I think most people go after the nostalgia of big game and overlook the some of the finest hunting opportunities in small game.

I agree with you 100%. My favorite pastime now is small game (usually squirrel) hunting with my .22 rifle. No heavy carcass to drag out (and dress), no tree stands, little or no competition from other hunters. I hunt at least 40 days a year and have yet to run across another squirrel hunter in the area I hunt. I enjoy it more, just a more casual and relaxing hunt for me.
