I'm kind of new to this site but I sure love my Ruger No. 1's like you guys do. I recently returned from a fly-in hunt for Caribou up north of Fairbanks and thought you guys might like to see a couple pics. I used my .338 Win Mag topped with the 2.5-10x42 Nikon Monarch.

Thanks Calvin, I took care of that in camp. I have been taking care of the meat and cleaning gear over the last couple days. I have to go back to work tomorrow, I'll be day dreaming of better places for sure!

And with a red pad to boot!

Nice Caribou...4 of us did a do it yourself Caribou hunt September 25-30, 2004 on the Squirrel River...brought home some nice trophies and meat..we are thinking about doing it again next September...I have heard the herds are doing ok except for the Mulchatna ...

Thanks for the pictures, very nice, it looked like you had a great trip.

The herds in unit 26 are doing well. The limit is 5 Caribou per person. The state also opened the grizzly season early in that unit as they are really wreaking havoc with the Muskox. We saw only one bear and we had just flown and by rules you can't shoot until the next day and didn't see another. This was also a DIY trip. We drove from Anchorage all the way up north, several hundred miles past Fairbanks and met a couple buddies who fly the bush. They landed on a patch of road off the haul road and we shuttled 15 miles in from the Dalton HWY.

69.5 Grains IMR4350 210 Grain Barnes TTSX. A little big, but there are bears about. Two days before I left on the trip, I went to the range to fire a cold barrel shot, here is where it went. I zipped the case and left the range.

Nice job, and with a #1-S to boot! Those Ss are the coolest rifles in the heavier calibers.

You have to love those 338 Win mags. My Ruger was my bench rest rifle for years before I could afford a real target build.

Nice caribou. That is my family's favourite meat.
