My hunting partner from West Va's... 187 Pigeon Lake buck was shot around 4:30...his 190 from Barrhead was at 10 ...his choice of scopes is a German Zeiss Diavari 3x9x36..... both were mid November hunts...

I should add that I'm not condemning the use of the best optics, use/used them myself - just thought it was worth mentioning.

I have found that around lunchtime (10:30-14:00) is about the BEST time to kill yourself a big northern buck.
Biggest buck I have ever seen alive was a 190-195 typical that was out in a field with a 160 class deer at about 9:45 in the morning. Dang rut does wonderful things!

My 160 buck was shot early in the morning barely dawn, I had only been in the stand a few minutes and I noticed him walking outside my stand so close I feared he was going to hear me breathing before I could get a shot.
A lesser but still good looking whitetail south of Battle river was taken about 1:00 pm and an Alberta mule deer in the same area was taken about 9:00 am.
Yep have to be on the ready from dawn till dusk.

OU: ...they move anytime they want to........When you kill them at 2 in the afternoon it can piss you off if you spent big bucks for a great "lowlight" scope..... Bob, this is why I chuckle when I hear someone say "you NEED a S&B for those last few minutes of light when hunting AB or SK".....I've taken 9 Canadian whitetails - eight were taken betwixed 11am and 2pm. Scott I know....I know....but what the hell, I know if I go back this year I'm taking the ugly 7 mag with the Schmidt.....I may not need it,but then again.....I might! I still love that scope!

I don't always venture out into the sub-freezing darkness, but when I do, it is deer hunting season, and I carry a Remington. Stay hungry my friends.

I seem to remember a super heavy rack in a photo of a buck from this unit in the newspaper you get with the regulations.

What about a guy who's content to shoot a 140 class? Would Alberta be a good place to hunt? Don't get me wrong, I want big too but it would be hard for me to pass up a 140.

Alberta would be real expensive for a 140. There are quite a few places you could go for a 140 that cost half as much, or even less.

A 140 is considered a dink to most Alberta outfits.
