Just thought I'd pass along some range info from this morning. I've been trying to work up some loads for my Tikka T3 30.06 and have had mixed results.
So far, no 180gr bullet is less than 2.0 MOA. In the 165 -168 category, Hornady IB will group around 1 - 1.25, Scirocco II will group around 1.5 -1.75 and Berger VLDs will group at .6 to .75. (These are all 5 shot groups - you guys taught me that 3 shot groups are only an indication of possible accuracy!!)
So, VLDs it is for my upcoming Caribou hunt!
The real reason for the post is to mention that I was looking at Speer's data for the Fusion bullets and saw that they recommend a magnum primer when using Ramshot Hunter.
I thought that was interesting because I haven't had good results with Hunter so far. I want my rifle to like that powder because I have a bunch of it and I love how it meters through the measure.
So I loaded up 5 rounds of VLDs with 56 gr of Hunter in RP cases with WLRM primers and a COAL of 3.327 (2.648 avg to the Ogive)
They chrono'd at 2683FPS Avg with a SD of 7.8. Group size was .625 for a 5 shot group. That's about as good as I can do.
Anyway, thought you all might be interested in the info from Speer about using magnum primers with Hunter.
