I recently ran across a UCLA study that cited Bacon's Magazine Review saying that Rifle /Handloader Magazines had
Handloader 109,150
Rifle 108,350
paid circulation in 2001.
Does anybody know the current figures?

The above titles don't seem to be part of the Audit Bureau of Circulation figures. Magazine Circulation as a whole may be coming out of the slump. Readers Digest got back the 1,000,000 readers it lost in 2003. Guns and Ammo, Shooting Times and Guns regained some monthly circulation from december 2003 to Dec. /04.

The Handgun titles aren't doing so well. Shooting Times Handguns went under several years ago, Over the last year, Peterson's Handguns has dropped like a rock and American Handgunner trends steadily downward.

Interesting figures on Reader's Digest. I don't see how it manages to sell when it is nothing more than a clone of Prevention. There is usually little in it (ads or material) that isn't health-related. It used to be a great read. Anymore it is just depressing.

Haven't seen it since I read one of the Readers Digest condensed books that left all the good stuff out of the rape trial in To Kill a Mocking Bird. Teachers in school used to make fund of RD as the Classics Illustrated Comic Book of the periodical world.

Back when I was reading it, it was specializing in health scares like red die number three in cranberry sauce. Also vivisecting a guy named Joe with titles like, I am Joe's Seminal Vesicle." They had figured out exactly how many irreplaceable brain cells died every day - a feat medical science has never been able to duplicate.

Don't worry about the "Reader's Digest" ruining your brain - you can kill more brain cells in one day by shooting a big-bore rifle than you can in a decade of boxing or a lifetime of heading balls in soccer - I know this is true, 'cause I read the posts the rest of you "rifle looney's write".
Me? I played soccer, then boxed, then got into rifles - I'm beyond hope! My brain turned to mush years ago.

There's another raid, condense and re-print mag called Utne's reader. It started out in 1987 as kind of like the Communist Reader's Digest. Went around copping articles from all the counter-culture and Marxist sheets. By 1990, circulation had increased to 204,000 by 1998, it had gotten to 260,000-dropped to 225,000 by 1999- and rebounded to 230,034 in December 2004. Kind of a trend-buster as if the Leftist Internationalist movement opperates under a different set of rules than the rest of the world.
