Handguns can go in a case then into the suitcase as checked baggage.

As with Brent, I've flown twice to Denver in the past three months with SKB cases and there was no problems. They were under 50lbs.

I'll be taking my 52x14 inch two gun case (Cabelas) containing one rifle to Utah on Friday. Last time they charged me, but no hassle. I'll report back.

What do they mean when they say TSA locks are not approved for gun cases? I have key locks are those OK?

To save checked baggage weight wear your hunting boots. Wear thin socks and lace them loosely so you can step in and out of them

I just returned from Alaska on Delta. I had a double gun case that weighed under 50 lbs, It wasnt an issue.

However, On my return flight I did pay 135.00$ for a third checked bag.

As most guys who have flown with firearms know, the airline will send you over to TSA for a weapons inspection. Once they've checked it out, they want it locked securely, not with the TSA locks that anybody can get a key for. (They want TSA locks on "other" bags, that weren't pre-inspected, in case they need to get in to them).

At least that's how I've always understood it.

I've always had good luck with the TSA guys. They'll check it out, snap your locks on it while you're there, and off they go.

I've been through this drill before and they never said anything about changing locks. Hope it doesn't hold me up.
