I'd be interested to hear which conical bullets people have killed elk with, especially in .54cal, and what they thought of them. According to their advertising anyway, some of them are designed for expansion and some for penetration. I doubt anyone has ever recovered one of the penetrators to see how or if it expanded, but I wonder how well the expanders penetrate. I also wonder if a half inch diameter bullet really NEEDS to expand. I shot a smallish cow once with a 430gr T/C maxiball (the penetrator) and it went straight down with two half inch holes in it, but that isn't much of a test. -al

Ellie Mae;
No Excuses up here in Roy, manufactures some of the most accurate shooting bullets I have ever shot from my 54 caliber. They follow the same idea as the White Systems bullets did but each one of these bullets are hand weighed and they are literally amazingly accurate.
Beware though, he only manufatures one for the .54 and it is a huge 535 grainer. It packs a serious wallop to the shoulder and I have yet to try one on an elk. A friend shot a small mule deer last fall with a 490 grainer in .50 and it expanded nicely leaving a 2"-2.5" exit hole in the opposite shoulder.
I know that Sportsman's Warehouse carries them but you can also buy directly from him as well. I think his website is http://members.aol.com/noexcusesb/index.html
They might just be worth trying. I will use them this fall if I draw the ML300 as I hope.
FH
