Does anyone carry a small battery powerd light weight lantern with them? If so, what brand? I carry a small Coleman (don't know the type, the yellow one) that weighs 6 oz. including the 3 AA batteries for a few camp chores in camp along with my headlamp. It throws off some light but would like to upgrade.Any suggestions?

I have a cheapie that my mother gave me for Christmas a few years ago. It used 3 D cells so it's to heavy for backpacking. It has 12 LED bulbs. It'll light up the tent enough to find your shoes for a 3AM pee call, but it's not bright enough for a general camp lantern. I have no idea how long the batteries will last. I've had it several years and it's still running strong on the original alkaline batts that came with it.

Perhaps an extra set of batteries and a Petzl style headlamp. Battery life is great and they are durable and cheap...

I've been using a Black Diamond Orbit for a while now. I believe it was a Backpackers Editors Choice Award winner.
Very small compact, with some cool features.
I typically use this to read while in my tent but not to blaze a trail (too small).

Check Wally World for a UFO style LED tent light. They are frisbie shaped and hang from a carabiner in the middle with about 20 LEDs around the edge and run off 4 AAs. Not ultra light (6 ozs or so) , but it's cheap at around $9. I hang one or two from my tipi and they throw a bunch of light. Here's a link, but I picked mine up in the camping section of Wal-Mart. http://www.google.com/products?hl=e...t=image&resnum=3&ved=0CDcQzAMwAg

This little sucker rocks. http://www.amazon.com/Small-Package-Bright-Camping-Lantern/dp/B002C5BXGQI've got the cool white version of this that I got on the cheap from STP (branded River Rock) but which I'd have bought the warm white version. We used our lantern for three nights over labor day weekend. Hanging inside the 6'6" tall family tent it's bright enough to read by when underneath it and lights the entire tent with usable light. By underneath... I mean that the top with the reflector can be unscrewed and then you hang it upside down. It comes highly recommended on CPF. --thumper338

Does anyone make a good one with a solar recharger? It's be nice to set it outside to recharge when I'm off hunting.
