I want a new toy - going to be a 221 fireball, bolt action, can be either single shot or repeater. has to be very light weight. I was thinking about getting an xp100 in 221 with the trigger at the rear and having it made into a rifle, pencil thin barrel, edge stock, talley's, the whole 9 yards. just for a fun light weight "see that - watch me hit it" gun.

Hornet I THINK they made several rifles using this action. I believe that the varmnt hunter magazine covered some of these in years past.

The XP-100 was used for many BR rifles back in the '80's and 90's.

Don't go chopping up an XP-100 in orginal configuration, getting to be fewer left all the time.

Look for an XR-100, it's already a rifle

the xp is basically a M7 action so yes it can be done. i just traded a XP 35Rem so that i wouldn't break it up and make a rifle out of it.

I have several M7's but I thought the XP was smaller in dia and shorter in length with a different bolt/bolt handle. I had a cooper and never liked it - shot good, just never liked the action

The one i had would drop right into a M7 stock and all the parts are M7.

well then maybe all I need to do is trade someone my M7 in 260 for a M7 in 223 or 221 (but I don't think that one was ever made)

I'm guessing you had an XP100R which I believe was a Model 7 action but the single shots were indeed very different than a Model 7.

Mine is the same as a 600. The rear tang is shorter than the M7. It will have to use a 600 trigger. And the bolt handle is different.

yeah, sorry. The rear grip is a M7 and the center grip is a 600/660...

well then maybe a 600 action is what I want then. Are these smaller and maybe lighter in weight then the M7?

That SURE looks like a rifle, well.......hand rifle wink

If I wanted a SWEET 221, I'd look at a Sako L461/469 or a Borden Alpine, but a Rem custom will do good work.

Had an SG&Y (Speedy Gonzales) built Fireball, shot BUGHOLES, Lil Gun, 40 Vmax, 3600+ mv, sweet.

FWIW, unless I wanted a 22 fast twist in 22/250(ai) or 22 BR, I'd go w/a FB or Deuce.

You just might think about a deuce, very sweet and accurate, always better for me than a 223, IME.

77/22, don't think there is any major difference from the original 7 and the 600 - action - other than bolt handle. The triggers were different, and the bolt guide was changed over time on the model 7 (believe it was originally a copy of the 600), the flange of metal looking at the top of the action, on the left side of the cut out.

The rear tang of the M7 is like a M700. The rear tang of a M600/660 is like an XP-100. I don't think there is much uglier than a M600 action dropped into a M7 stock.

How about going the other way, Rem 7 dropped into a Rem 600/660 inletted stock?

If you need a handle, Remington is closing out the XR100 thumbhole grey laminated stocks for $56, Remington's part # F113510.

Listen to DocEd. The tangs are much different between the M7 and the 600. You would have to do body work on the stocks and if you pillor bed the rear screw on the 600, it will have to be a very thin pillor or it will interfere with the trigger.
