I've been out in the rain big time with my stainless rifles..

using car wax on them helps a lot...

when I do get rust spots.. a little oil and steel wool takes it right off...

Whatever car wax you have on hand would work, I have also used "EEZOX" and more commonly "Snoseal" boot waterproofing, it's beeswax and silicone.
If you are hunting soon, be aware that car wax won't stink as much as the others.

Coat the whole rifle with bacon grease. Also doubles as bear/coyote lure (grin)

Wax is the way to go.
