The place to ask about sniper scopes is on Sniper's Hide where people posing as actual snipers post. There, fixed that for you "fanboy".

Magtard,
I told the real Lee 24 he was full of schit at the beginning the first sniper thread, I think you are perfect for his part on this one.
Your grasp of reality is about the same as his. So are your qualifications to expound upon anything meaningful.

Vortex Viper at Cameraland for $179.00. Koshkin rated it among the best of the <$200 scopes. I have one, and it is very nice. It would be a good scope at twice that price. +1 on the Viper. The 2-7 is a really nice scope and a REAL bargain at $179. Light weight, great glass, great CS, and sharp looking.

I would go with a good red dot with a fine dot 3moa or smaller, I just got a millett zoom dot that was brand new but someone couldn't return it so they listed on e-bay. They had it listed for 300 I bid 200 and got it. I can dial up or dial down the dot from 1moa (1 inch at 100 yards, 2 inches at 200 yards) to 10 moa (10 inches at 100 yards, 20 inches at 200 yards) , where i live most shots are 200 yards and under and with a fine dot I can hit that no problem.

...Having just bought a Leupold VX-I, I won't be buying another Leupold. Why not?? You can barely turn the power adjustment ring. In fact it's so hard I don't adjust it. It's not as bright/clear as my Nikons or Bushnells either.

I've been a big Leup guy all my life, and the 2-7x Viper is a steal at $175.

Just a thought....the resell value of a non-brand scope isn't going to be much.

I did not read all the answers but bear in mind, that your "backup"-scope is THE mainscope from the very moment you look thru it....

The bottom line for me was testing out those scopes in natural light and comparing prices for what the scope had on it and what I wanted. I compared the Leupold, Nikon, Buris, Simmons, Weaver, Redfield and Bushnell scopes. I don't bring home a new scope for a rifle with the intentions of selling it 2 years down the road. I have scopes on my rifles that are 5, 10 and 15 years old. Most of them are in fact Leupold rifle scopes.
I came away with the Bushnell leading the pack!!! We spent 3 days looking through a bunch of rifle scopes both in and out of those stores. The Leupolds where just far to much money in comparison. We also noticed a difference in clarity between powers moving up the scale with the Leupold model. I went with the Bushnell scope in the 3200 series Tactical. The scope has "turrets" power is 5 x 15 and with adjustable AO.
Now the price was $370 verses the Leupolds $600 dollars plus. I ended up purchasing 4 of these Bushnell scopes and put them on 3 new varmint/predator rifles, plus one older rifle. I came away saving a bunch of money and the Bushnell product has very good glass, sharp viewing. I am well satisfied with my purchase. I would check out the Bushnell line of scopes and Cabela's has been having a sale on them off and on.

Tonk, that you found the Bushnell Elite scopes to be an exceptional value does not surprise those of us who've used them extensively. Me and a few other folks here have been saying for years that the 3-9x40 Elite 4200 is THE best buy in quality riflescopes.
Just wait until you use those Elites in the rain and you'll see that Rainguard works as advertised.

Nikon Team Primos. This is a 3-9x40 BDC monarch scope and can be had for $199 if you look around. I have two and they are better than a VXII IMHO. Ken

Just a note here. Although I recommended a used Leupold fixed 4x scope, my back up rifle in 7x57 has a Leupold fixed 3x long tube scope on it. I installed it because I had a spare one sitting on the shelf in my safe. When I made my earlier post, I considered a fixed 3x, but thought the 4x would be easier to locate. Either one will work, and the 4x's are a proven scope, for me anyway. I think that Shrapnel's long tube 4x would be a "Best Used Scope Buy" for a back up rifle. It's up for sale in our classified's right now. I've never used many of the scopes recommended above, but the guys suggesting them have some valid reason for mentioneing them.

I will have to look into the Nikon Team Primos BDC - that's top quality optics for a really good price!
