I'm thinking about having my Sharps replica 50x2.5 relined. It has a 34" heavy octagon on it.Anyone know an outfit that can do this??,or would I be better off going with a new barrel.I dont do any serious shooting with it.Just a big bore rifle for informal black powder shooting at up to 300 yds.

I'm fairly experienced in the BPCR game, but I'm not a gunsmith. Don't even play one on TV. grin

I won't say it can't be done (reline), but it's certainly not common. I'm sure there are technical issues, including the new caliber. Possibly a small, low pressure round. I do know that .22 RF liners are quite common, including removable inserts allowing .22 RF to be shot in a big bore BPCR.

Most just bite the bullet and have a new barrel fitted.

Bobby Hoyt can do it. Turn around isn't quick. He's well respected in the business. He relined a Lyman GPR .54 barrel I had, to .458 and you can't even see the seams!

He doesn't return calls coz they are mostly long distance and speculative. He will respond to a letter or if you catch him in the shop, he'll pick up the phone.
