I purchased a CVA Accura last year(I also own a Savage 10ML11). I've shot the Accura twice now once at 50yds and a few weeks ago at 100yds both times with the same load, 2 IMR White Hot pellets, Barnes 250gr TEZ, Win 209 primer. It's dialed in pretty good with about an inch and a half group at 100. I have time to get only one more range session in before the start of our early Muzzle season in the northern zone of NY. I have a jug of BH-209 and with all the favorable post I've seen on this powder I am having the dilemma as to giving it a try or leaving things as is this close to the season?. Thoughts, comments, suggestions ?

blackhorn! My Accura runs a .035" flash hole " #65 drill bit" and then i use a #32 drill bit, spun by my fingers to cut the carbon out of the flash channel. Keeping the flash channel clear of carbon is extremely important with blackhorn!

I would leave it alone until after the season. I shoot Blackhorn, but wouldnt change something right before season if you dont have enough time to really tinker with it. Run with what you know this season.

I'm with Hawk Driver, this close to your season, run the WH's if they're shooting for you.
Of course, I'd be willing to bet that a half hour of range time (or less) with the BH will have you dialed in.

I am with Skane on this one. You can shoot the BH-209 and without moving your scope adjustments you have set for the white hot powder and the Barnes TMZ.
Shoot 100 grains, then 105 grains and then 110 grains if you need to in 3 shot groups. Since you don't need to "Swab" BH-209 in-between shots just how long can it take??

You may not want to switch right now but I'd run the Blackhorn and you can get it local and cheapest at Beikirch Ammunition Corporation (585) 248-3660 930 W Linden Ave, East Rochester, NY 14445

What is the cleanup/corrosion issues with the white hots? That would be a biggie for me. I bet you could confirm your zero in 6 or so shots, probably not all that different. If you have to worry about cleanup the day of shooting with white hots I'd make the switch.

Thanks for all the feed back guy's. I guess my main concern would be in regards to the post by Bigblock455 who seems to know the CVA line pretty well. If I have to modify the Breechplug to shoot this powder then I would definately wait. I was under the assumption that the Accura with a CCI-209M would lite the BH-209 with no problem. Thanks again.

with the cci 209m primers it most likely would work fine but i feel safer with the .035" flash hole.
I shoot the imr's in my Accura with the .035" flash hole with no trouble.

So it was off to the Range this morning. I did decide to give the BH-209 a try. I measured out a bunch of 90gr loads. Started right off at 100yds, my first two shots were right next to each other two inches left of the Bull. I loaded up the third shot and figured if it was right there with the other two I would bump the scope over to the right by two inches. I get lined up and squeeze the trigger and had a hangfire. So I removed the Breech plug cleaned out the fire channel re-install and went back to the White hots. Next three shots dead center in the Bull measuring 3/4 of an inch. I'm quite satisfied and will live with it for this year.
