Hey there everybody. I work at a Can-Am dealership as a mechanic and the other day I got to set up and test drive the new Commander 1000 side by side. I was actually really impressed with the thing. It has tonnes of power and handles well. Did not expect to walk away that impressed with it. Has anyone else driven one yet? What do you think of it? The only reason I bring this up is because I see an add for one on the site here and I wondered if you've tried one yet.

How heavy are they? I met a feller last week that had an 800 Outlander and he got it stuck on some logs. We tried to lift it off them and I almost had a hernia. I neded up pulling it off with my Foreman. Those Can-Am's seem to have a lot of power but I worry about weight.

That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

Outlanders are all big framed bikes.Even the 500 weighs almost as much.Any weight saving comes from the smaller tires and McPherson front suspension. If you miss the bounce and slide over the log,the heavy nose is useful, that's what the skid plates and winch are for.

The CanAms are actually lighter than some of the others. The Outlander 800 at 707lbs versus the Polaris Sportsman 800 at 770lbs. I think the Outlanders have aluminum frames?

Nope they are steel frames. But of a box perimeter set up that makes them lighter.

I have read that Po's have a steel plate for a frame. Which means that don't need the skid plates of the others.
