Has anyone successfully skeletonized a laminate stock and if so can you post some pics. What weight did you end up with and how was the rifle's balance compromised? How bad was the stiffness of the stock affected?

I've drilled lightening holes in the butt and hollowed out forearms which saves about 1/3 to 1/2 pound without sacrificing strength at all. I've often thought about milling a pocket just small enough to be covered by a Beartooth neoprene cartridge carrier which I kind of prefer to use any way. weight reduction would be about 3/4 lb with a hollowed forearm. It would create a nice place to keep essentials like hunting licenses. I've thought about building a personal one for a couple of years, thanks for renewing my interest! Dale

10-4 I was thinking about skeletonizing the buttstock similar to that Eberlestock but hopefully not as butt ass ugly. Tapering the forend a little and some hollowing. I'm not worried about the strength on the buttstock but I'll have to experiment a little to find a balance on the forend that won't succumb to sling pressure.

Remember everything in front of the lug is for looks and control, you can kind of go nuts on reducing weight from the forend without compromising accuracy. Look at the Kifaru stocks, I know its a composite but you could do the same thing with a wood stock, similiar to the look of the boyds evolution for the 10-22.
