His definition of "excellent" is different than mine.

I know nothing about mausers but I can't believe someone bid $270 on that. I wonder what he considers poor shape.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is that cocking piece crooked?

Does it look slightly bent to the left, like it was distorted when they unscrewed the barrel? I am not a Mauser cognoscenti either.

There was a MM for sale a while back, 100 miles from here. it had some poorly drilled holes in it, it was sporterized, and the caliber was unknown, but it seemed a usable rifle. I think it went for $300 or so.

I think the hole is a gas vent port and the half-moon is for loading with a stripper clip.

Left side looks bent in the top photo (attached) as it doesn't make a straight diagonal line.

And not so much in the bottom photo, where the right side looks bent.

Maybe it is a camera thing, but I would want a good examination before spending that kind of money.

Excellent condition???? No pitting???? My ass......

Also, the dang receiver is warped to the left and the cocking piece in the bolt is warped upwards.

Other than that, it looks just fine..... like a Chevy Citation at the bottom of the pile in a junkyard ditch.

If one could fit a 270 Winchester in that thing it would be the PERFECT candidate

To bend a mauser action like that you really have to work at it. It's not something that just "oops" happens. Even clamped in a vice and grabbing onto a barrel it would be tough to accomplish.

I was referring to the bend in the receiver and cocking piece, I was wondering if my bifocals were messing me up, but I guess not.
Me thinks someone ran over it with a pickup.

I could very well be wrong but I thought the Mexicans stayed with the 94 Mauser action. Never went to the 98. If so then the cocking piece isn't even from a Mauser. Looks like it is from a Springfield.
