Is this possible and would it be reliable. My rounds fall out of my Mark V Weatherby if not held upright. I had this rifle for many years and it needs a new barrel and some other improvements. Rifle is in great shape it just shoots 2 inch groups now. So is it worth converting to a controlled feed?

Hmmmmmm...
Fall out of the magazine with bolt open, or fall out of the action when cycling the bolt with the rifle held inverted (upside down) or sideways with the ejection port down??

If turn the rifle sideways they have a tendency to fall out.

Turning a pushfeed into controlled feed is not something I would even consider.

Highridge is right, the Mk V bolt design does not really lend itself to this conversion. I have not experienced this with my own Mk V rifles. It sounds as though the feed lips in the magazine are worn or bent. In my rifles the round is still held by the magazine box until the round is over half chambered.

How would you turn a PF into a CRF anyway ? Savage just sells you a new bolt head. BMT

The problem ain't the PF bolt but instead the feedrails as stated by Texas.
If one milled away the bottom (when the bolthandle is up) of the boltface perimeter you'd end up with a boltface like the one Savage put on some of their rifles and like the CRPF Winchesters. Not sure if that is possible with the Mark V but I'd think it would be a waste of time.

Not at all normal for a Mark V. Mark Vs use a magazine feed system similar to the SMLE 303, the lot is done by the box and is normally very "controlled"
Also, push feeds (if normal) don't let the cartrdige full leaver the magazine until the round is well into the chamber. So they feed upside down, sideways etc.
However, if are closing the bolt to the point where the round leaves the magazine and is in the chamber and then pull the bolt back some all let it fall some and the rifle is on its side than the round could call out.

Mike 378 is right. My Weatherbys x2 feed nicely upside down so sounds like the bottom end is worn out enough to allow them to fall like that. Try it with a newer rifle.
It is better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6.
