Well everyone it is Muffy on my dad's computer. We got our shopping done today. I ended up getting a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9x40. Dad has a Buckmasters 4.5-14x(40?) and he is very happy with his. I was going to get the Leupold but they only had the one I wanted in silver. He also bought me a box of ammo. THANKS DAD! smile

Don't tell Jeremy but I bought a range finder today. whistle I got a Leupold RX-600. We also each got a free Scheels hat. I will post pictures tomorrow when I get home.

It was kinda funny, mom was keeping a close eye on dad in the gun section. She even come and asked me one time "what did he find now"? She knows him all too well. grin

I think my father in law has one of those buckmasters. He bought it because he says HE'S the buckmaster....no i'm not kidding.

But anyway, he likes that scope a lot. He bought it because it gave him good eye relief. He was tired of getting a bloody forehead every time he shot at a deer.

You'll have to compare it to Pam's nikon during deer season. She has one on her 30-06, hers was produced prior to the "buckmark" and "monark" model designations so I'm not certain what the lenses are like compared to todays models but it is a very nice scope.

My dad is also a big fan of the Nikon's so he'll be praising you for your scope choice grin

He has that bushnell that I borrowed to him for his 30-06 right now but I know as soon as he can buy a scope for it he will likely buy a Nikon for it.

good mornin all! I'm headed to bed soon, I've had 3 hours of sleep since tuesday 7pm. saw a bunch of deer again last night, one was taken by a 2001 international at appx 55mph.
and a good thing that happened last night was my boss agreed to let me hunt his place, its mostly flat fields with one meandering creek that holds a couple deer. no corn fields around for miles, but the deer have to travel that route from the river bottom to the nearest corn field. unfortunately there are 2 other groups who can hunt it and they drive it every so often when things get slow at their regular places. at least I can take Kendra out on opener and try to get her a first deer. she's been practicing with the lefty 243 savage I got her and does really well with it.

nice scope pic Missy, you'll like it I think. I had a nikon on a 223 once and I regret selling it. I thinkm I'm gonna switch to them as I phase out burris (bad customer service).

I like the new rifle Dave! when is the early doe season? is the gang pumped?

Sweet Jesus!!! Chickenbuck is open for rutting! question here for all you guys that i got some concern with on the upcoming youth hunt. Seeings my daughter can participate in it this year, now its just time to really to get her to shoot the rifle, choices being 30/30, 25.06, 270, 7mm mag. What do you boys think i should let her try. The only thing shes shot are her .22 and a .410. Dont want to scare her right away. we might have to ponder over some cool cocktails tomorrow.

I would say the 25-06, I do have a load I use in my 30-30 that is really mild and shoots a 180 grain slug so it will take down anything MN has to offer, were it me thats what I use, but I don't know if there would be a way to get you a couple of boxes for her to use before the season starts.

don't have any them. was really thinking the 06 would be the best choice of any of them.

Definitely not the .270 or 7mm Rem Mag. It's a toss-up between the 30-30 and 25-06. I'd lean towards the 30-30, although it would largely depend on stock-fit to her frame and the sights on the guns.

Is she used to iron sights or scopes? What does each of the guns have?

Assuming the same weight of rifle in each (30-30 is probably lighter due to typically shorter barrels) the 25-06 is going to have about 25% more recoil with a louder report. Neither is an excessive kicker though.

I wouldn't use that .410. .25-06, or 30-30 should be fine. .25-06 would be my vote there Buschy.
