my son and i are looking for a "meat" buffalo hunt for next year. just a decent cow or a young bull. i realize this will be a ranch hunt with little challenge. we just want a freezer full of good meat.
i'd appreciate any advice as to where we might find a reasonable hunt.
thanks

Give these guys a look. Granted it's still a ranch hunt, but you stay in tipis and eat out of a chuck wagon, etc. http://www.hawes.org/hunt/maddog

Flying D quit some of their hunts due to the lawsuit pending on the state and FWP giving away bison to Ted, who sells bison in his many restaurants.

i live down south, but just returned from an antelope hunt in wyoming, so travel doesn't bother me.
close or far, either would be fine as long as we get some quality meat.
thanks

be sure to ask specifically whether the bison are free range or grain fed. Except on the bigger ranches out west, grain-fed-in-pens is pretty common (may as well buy grain-fed beef).

Might want to read this meat hunt post, sounds like they had fun, pictures included. (Hawes) I've got no knowledge of them other than they (Hawes) were featured on one of the hunting channels (TV). http://www.kifaruforums.net/showthread.php?23339-Kansas-Buffalo...

Todd Griffin, with Pipe Creek Guide Service, out of Minneaplois, Ks. used to do a pretty good hunt. www.pipecreekguide yahoo.com www.huntinfo.com/pipecreekWasn't exactly cheap meat. When we were their a couple years ago, seems it was $2500.00 for a 3 day hunt. We were on a deer hunt, so don't have particulars on the buff hunt. Phone 785-392-3248. The man can definitly put you on 150 plus deer.
