You boys and girls have certainly been busy in my absence. Good to see someone spending their hard earned dollars.

My granddaughter got her first deer last weekend during the youth hunt. A small doe, but it will always be the most memorable deer she ever gets.

My neighbor was up by Prentice fishing, and a young man brought in a great 10pt.

Buschy, go to ace or coast & see if you can find some reduced recoil factory loads for the 30-06 by federal (more accurate in the low recoil for 30-06 typically)

If you can find them buy 2 boxes because if you buy one and go back for another they will be out of them. Recoil (felt) is around the .243

Or, we can find some heavier 220 swift & she can use my ruger M77 220 swift if she wants.

My little hunting budy tonight. I let him carry this marlin youth single shot .22 unloaded. I did pass him a bullet & let him shoot at a red squirrel on our walk grin He missed.

That was my first thought too, especially since during the youth season every kid has to have an adult with them. You'd be able to help with the loading/unloading if you like.

Any idea what those red mushrooms are yet Dave? Neat looking shrooms, but beyond what I'd eat.

The trip was great. If you you're ever looking for a place to take the family, I highly recommend Gettysberg. Just wait until the kids are older though and have them read up on the civil war first. I could have spent several more days there it was so interesting.

I've seen those red mushrooms around our camp. I'll have to check those areas out for grouse.

I'll have to get a possitive ID on those buds they are eating too. Looks like something I've seen in the tag alders before but I'm not possitive about that.

The birds I shot last weekend had clover the tips of princess pines, and the buds from what looked like birch trees. I wasn't too sure on the buds though.

I usually have my best luck hunting the tag alders. Tough walking and shooting, but it usually pays off.

Also look for bushes with a small red berry on them (Not a High Bush Cranberry). I find a lot of these when there available in the birds crops. We call them Jerry Berries, because it was a old friend named Jerry that discovered that grouse had a liking for them. Now I'm getting the itch to get the old Browning BSS 20 gauge out and reduce the grouse numbers a bit.

Just got in from taking the kiddo's to the bus stop and there is plenty of frost on the old pumpkin today. It's down right chilly out.

I gotta toughen up. Only 3 weeks till deer season! actually, it's 22 days but who's counting. grin

Well, i think i will give her the choice between the 30/30 and the 25.06. the thing with the 25.06 is got a lot more distance chance with that one. Out at the deer stands last night and checking the camera, we had deer all over around us. we left the woods on the Electric Ranger and heard what sounded like a gun shot out a car window, upon further investigation they hit a nice buck. Only had half the rack, hoping to find the other half today that got busted off. a good 6 pnt on the side i got, checked my card this morning, the bugger been hanging out around my stand too. Wishing the daughter could have got him, rather than be road kill!

that sucks! so close to season too. I saw another deer hit on the road last night, it was a fawn. not pretty after a hundred trucks run over it. with all these deer being hit, at least around here I reckon its an indication of good numbers. hopefully anyway. I'd sure like to see Kendra get a nice fat doe. seein more ducks and geese flying, fall is definitely in full swing!

Smart man, he knows you can't have fork lift races with just one fork lift.
