an ar 15 in 223 with a ceiner conversion kit for shooting .22's. (not a rifle, so it doesn't count.) a 280. flat shooting with the power of a 30-06, and a lare selection of bullets for small to large game, and from here to wayyy over there. and i'd have to go with a 375 h&h, for the really big stuff. or a 50 bmg, and kill just about anything in the universe.

Jordan,
The big reason I wouldn't consider the .375 Ruger over the .375 H&H is Africa. While I haven't had to buy rifle ammo in Africa, some visitors do, and there's always a good selection of H&H!

My wife asked me if I could only have three rifles to hunt every game animal in the world what three would it be? Now I have been thinking about it and boy is it hard for me atleast. So what say you? .............Will your wife be limiting you to just three rifles for that purpose?.... On the bottom end, what is the smallest game you`ll hunt? P/dogs? Gophers? Coyotes? If so, the 22-250, followed by a fast 7mm, then by the 375 H&H or the 375 Ruger would be my three choices. If the smallest game starts with deer, I`d go with a 6.5mm, followed by a fast 30, and then with either 375 as above.
28 Nosler,,,,300WSM,,,,338-378 Wby,,,,375 Ruger

223, 30-06 and 375 H&H would do it for me. How about an an 84 M Montana, a 30-06 0r 300 WSM Montana 84L or 8400 and a Kimber Talkeetna.

My bare minimum/fundamental (3)three long-gun battery for North America is a 22lr, a 12ga, and a 30-06. Being that the 12ga does not count as one of your three, and being you need to cover everything, I'd add the 375H&H. If I had the luxury to add an additional rifle to that mix, I'd probably look at the 243.
Best:)

My three would be: 375 H&H as the big gun 7x57 for the intermediate rifle 222 Rem Magnum for the Prairie Dogs and Woodchucks.

That's a pretty good selection. I would agree except for the .300 H&H--and even then not much.
A .223 can be handloaded to duplicate a .22 Long Rifle small game load, or with full-power loads works great on varmints or even deer.
A .375 H&H works on the really big and/or dangerous stuff, and is legal everywhere in Africa.
For the rifle in-between the .223 and .375 anything from a .243 to a .300 magnum will work, depending on what kinds of hunting you mostly do.
'Twer I to get very serious about having just three, I'd follow this advice with the 'Tweener spot taken up by the 30-06. I would also follow the suggestion to have all the rifles built similarly and definitely on the same action. Since I will in all likelihood be relegated to North American or at the most 'pedestrian' foreign pursuits I'll probably go a similar route, but with a 338 Win Mag on the big end. Now I just have to reconcile that I have a 223AI and 338 Win on different actions...

223 I thought really hard about a .22LR but for a lot of what I might use that for on small game I could get by with a shotgun, which isn't against the rules.
340 (or other fast mid-bore) With 210gr TSX's it's as flat as my 7Mag with 150's. With 250-275gr pills you can handle with little drama whatever you point it at until you get to the biggest of African fare. Considered something smaller, mainly for the purposes of a lighter gun for carrying that still won't try to kill you as much as the intended target, like an '06 maybe. With premium bullets you can get away with a lot these days. Still, a fast mid-bore is both flat and powerful and covers enough to allow the "big" rifle to be a genuinely bigger rifle.
416 The 375 is really versatile and God knows it's handled it's share of the biggest and meanest and if you're really trying to cover all of it with ONE rifle it's probably tough to beat. Thing is, outside of the biggest dangerous stuff I prefer a fast .33. If I am wanting to poke a hole in a Cape Buff, much less trying to stop one inbound with ill intent, I'd prefer more than a .375.
If there's one thing I've become certain of it's that there's too much certainty in the world.

No she is just inquisitive and it really made me stop and think about it.
Shotguns are not in the equation and .22 is a rifle. Only three rifles to hunt everything on earth fella's.PS Bruce I have more boots and shoes (more so boots) then she has all totaled so can't try that one.
Some are choosing small calibers for the African Big Stuff
