I have a 10/22 Ruger, with a bull barrel. Going to use it in bench rest competition next season. Will a muzzle break help? Some have said it will and others have said it will do nothing - Any thoughts on muzzle breaks?

I would be interested in seeing the responses from those who do bench rest shoot. I can't imagine a muzzle break will help with anything on a .22 though. Have you posted on www.RimfireCentral.com? That forum gets a lot more activity in regard to .22's than this one does. You might get your answer quicker and with more opinions over there.

You're pretty much good to go already with a bull bbl, but also a muzzle break wouldn't hurt, but it's not going to make THAT much of a difference. Have you had any trigger work done?

The benchrest club I belong to alot of the guys use brakes not only for the recoil reduction but for the noise. There theory is the more noise/blast they make the worse the two guys sitting next to them will shoot. Keep in mind these guys shoot all types of benchrest not just rimfire. Take it for what its worth.

A muzzle break won't effect accuracy. All it does is increase noise and decrease recoil. There is almost no effective recoil on a 22lr, especially with a heavy gun, so the recoil reduction should not be noticeable.

I have one that I use on my 10/22 from D.I.Products Inc that works rather well. It has a baffle system inside to help control the blast so your recovery time is a bit faster. My 10/22 is not real heavy but it does seam to help even though I don't do much bench rest shooting. .

Muzzle breaks work on a pressure principle, of which a 22 rim fire has little. Spend your money on a better barrel.
I've been so overwhelmed with fake news that I'm now nuts. Let's go Brandon

I just thought of this. I have a smith 41 that has the muzzle brake on the barrel. When someone else is shooting it you can see the gas escape the muzzle brake. I am not saying the brake actually does anything but there is enough gas left at the end of the barrel to make it through he brake.
