Anybody know how hard these are to find?

I've got data stating there were roughly only 225 (on average) per year from 1933 to 1939.

Even if I did find one is the 25-20 an obsolete round?

I traded a nice early 23B 25-20 in at EPPs a while back. They are asking $350. The 25-20 is a really fun cartridge to shoot. I doubt if it will ever be totally obsolete as there are a lot of 1892 Winchesters in that caliber.

I agree with Bill, the .25-20 and .32-20 brass is available everywhere. The loaded .32-20 is the cheapest to buy (cowboy shooters) but I like handloading 60 gr 25-20's.

The magazines for the early model 23 is hard to find and high dollar ($50-75US). The 1933 and later use the later style and are in the $20-25US range.

I have one in 25-20 and it is really accurate with the 75 gr Speer Hot Cors. I picked mine up for $225 with one mag. I got a 2nd replacement from gunparts for $35. I have been shooting the 25-20 since about 1990 when I got my first Winchester '92 in that round. I have loaded the 60 gr JFP, 85 gr LFP and the Speer 75 gr JFP and they have all been accurate and a blast to shoot. I have shot everything from squirrels and Rabbits to rolling a coyote at 75 yds with a Hot Cor to the head. Remington still makes reloading brass and while they are $25 bucks for 50 rounds you can get factory loaded for it. If you find one snatch it up, you'll have a blast. Ryan

The "B" is the checkered model and the hornet is plain. For awhile it seemed 23B's were everywhere. Now it has been qiute awhile since I have seen one. I have only ever seen 1 in 32-20 and the only one I have seen for sale I now own. The gun on top is the 25-20.

I don't know why but I'm getting into these small rounds lately.

What's going on might be called maturity.

The 23B is chambered for 25-20.
The 23C is chambered for 32-20.
The 23D is 22 Hornet.

Gun at Epps isVG. Bore excellent. Older 25-20 High Velocity loads shoot much better than current factory loads in these rifles.

There is a 32-20 on Auction Arms and another on Gunbroker for $375 and another on gunborker in 25-20, I forget how much. When I got mine I traded a new Baikel SXS that I really didn't like after shooting it straight across. Came to about $250 for the trade. It has some really nice figure to the wood and at 50 yds with the Speer 75 gr JFP over 8 gr of 2400 it will put 5 shots in .785 inchs and it does this on a regular basis with open sights. I had a peep for it but mine was earlier then the sight and the taps from factory didn't match up, so I just keep the range to the open sights and I have been happy with it. Ryan

Can anyone provide manufacturer name, model, and a place to buy the early model magazine reproductions? I've held 10 round mags in the past. I've been told that the company made (standard) 5 round mags. Or, is this what Steve is selling?

At the time, a shiny new 10-round mag seemed inappropriate in a 'mature' casual-hunting rifle. At this point, hey, any port in a storm.

I can't remember what type Steve was selling, just that he had the right mags for the 25-20.

I haven't bought an 1899 in almost 2 months, somethings wrong.

Just picked up a 170 in 30-30 yesterday. First year of manufacture.

I didn't know there were repro's of the early mag's. Anyone have one?

I have a repro of the early mags, I got it from Gunparts. They have a square base pad instead of the rounded stamped metal of the originals. It looks like a larger version of the mag that is on my 17 Hornady in the Savage 93R17. It functions alright but the first round sometimes jams into the feedramp, the locking bump was cut a hair too low to function reliably in my gun, may be different in someone elses. They don't show having anything for the 23 anymore, but they once did. Ryan

Some time ago, I bought a barrel from austraila in 32-20, there must have been a bunch of them shipped there. It had some other proofs on it I believe. But, it was just the barreled reciever. He had a few mags also, at the time he wanted something like $25 us for them, they were all the pebble mags.
