To the vintage guitar guys and gals here. Long ago I inherited my grandfathers Martin guitar. As above it is - verified - a 1942 wartime vintage model 0-18. Been played a LOT over the years and has some attendant cosmetic issues but is solid and sound and plays great. With my mom's OK since I will be using the money to buy a sound system for my Gospel Quartet, I am now going to sell this but have no earthly idea of where to go to market it to the right people and get a fair price. I don't mind if a dealer buys it from me and re-sells it at some profit but don't want to get taken to the cleaners. Not a member of E-bay but maybe this would be a good place to start? Would rather take another route as in deal with a reputable vintage guitar dealer. Any idea's from here? Anyone here into these and want such a piece? Thanks in advance. MARK

Believe it not, PM JeffO.

He sells high-end guitars on the side, and has some $$$ customers.

Lots of mention on Google.

Several, various years, had prices of $2500-$3500.

Ebay has treated me well in buying and selling of guitars. Take lots of good pictures and put a reserve on it that you can live with. The good stuff beat the reserve and bring good money. I have shipped guitars internationally before and is a good idea with a collectible instrument. Of course, this economy will inhibit some bidders but I would think it still a good place to get a lot of exposure easily.

Check with the big three Martin dealers for price estimates. Elderly, Instruments, George Gruhn and Mandolin Brothers. I have dealt with all three and gotten good service.

Being as you're on the west coast, you might try contacting Gryphon Stringed Instruments (Palo Alto, CA) or Buffalo Bros. (Carlsbad, CA) as well.

You also might want to check out the 'unofficial martin guitar forum' . They have a classified section, and a lot of knowledgable folks over there.
