Anyone have a favorite powder choice for the .338-06 AI? Planning on using bullets in the 225 gr. range. Thanks in advance.

RL-17 works great in my 338 RCM with 225 accubonds, should perform similarly in the 338-06 AI.

I mostly shoot 180's for deer and those Nosler partition in the 210 grain. If your going to shoot 225 grain bullets, you might try out this load of H-414 powder at 58 grains for a velocity of 2,500fps.
However, I still think the 210 grain is a better route to take with this caliber. I use 52 grains of IMR-4320 powder and velocity is almost 2700fps. This load is real accurate in my 338/06 model 70 Winchester.

In 1982 I had a 03 Springfield rebarreled to 338-06AI in 23" Fwt profile. Ran only 210 NosParts. 4320 was powder I always returned to. A little over 2700fps.

Accurate 4064, Federal 210 primer, 210 TSX, Federal case, 54.0 grains, 24" barrel, 2750 fps. Make my brass from 270 brass.

Well, I picked up some 4320 and in the fireforming process so far. The Hornady 225 gr. SSTs seem to really shoot in my rifle. I have had some of the Noler partitions perform so pourly in the past, I can't bring myself to use them again; but have always had Hornady's work very well. I may give some TSXs a go. Thanks you guys. I appreciate the input greatly! Cheers.

How did the Nosler Partitions perform poorly? Come apart? Not open at all? Overpenetrate?
