For 30+ years I have been packing a small Jap made 20X spotter. It has been about ideal for what I do. Recently I had a chance to pick up a Leupold 25X for small money. Side by side, the Jap spotter seems considerably brighter, clearer and better at resolving objects at a distance.
I expected more from the Leupold. I have used Leupold variables, and as long as I have stayed at lower powers, they have worked well for me. Mirage has been my biggest problem with the upper powers. Buying this one, I thought I had cut a fat hog in the ass as it is a small scope in the right power range for me. However, I wonder if it defective or if it is working as designed and built. If you have, or have used, one of the 25X50 Leupolds, what is your opinion of them? Thanks.
