Drove up to camp Thursday to check things out. Snowed most of the way up, but nothing was sticking.
The high winds the past few days sure took down a lot of trees. Power and light crews were out all over the place trying to restore power. There are areas of the state that wont have power back until this weekend or early next week. Two school districts in the North are still closed due to power loss.
The North also received a bunch of rain and our road into camp was flooded at the creek crossing. There was more water around the cabin than I've see in 20 years. I think we're going to need an air boat to get arond the woods.
I did not find any scrapes and only one small rub, not good.
Saw a couple of deer on the trip out.
When I got home the lastest edition of Wisconsin Outdoor News had arrived. There was an article about a 75 year old hunter that took a very heavy buck with a crossbow. The buck weighed 314 pounds (Live weight) on a certified scale.

That's a pretty big buck. Holy cats!
I don't think I'd be too discouraged about the lack of buck sign Bill. In the area's I've been in the last few weeks, there was virtually none, so maybe they didn't start rutting much yet. One of the area's I've been in has a pretty good deer pop. so I have faith.

Took some pics from by bow stand yesterday. This one is looking to the north. You can see our little pond where the deer go for a sip. To the east. It is a trail that goes to the neighbors food plot. To the south.
I am out of order until further notice. My "stupid people" filter needs cleaning and my "give a damn" batteries have run out.

No it was a work trip. I wore my chickenbuck shirt to Indy just so I can say it's been there.

Yep, glad to be home. I see the forecast calls for a week of sunshine. That's good for our wet deer camp access trail.
It might get a chance to dry up a little before it gets pounded full of ruts again, this freezing at night really helps too.

Surprised you were able to get to Indy by air when you did. That wind storm had all the major airports screwed up. Don't think I'd have enjoyed flying one bit.

cool pics Missy, I miss bow hunting in the worst way, I don't have the time for it anymore, and I don't think my back would fare to well with all the practicing I would need to do. I think I am at most peace and ease when I'm in the bow stand.

It's nice to see that skiff of snow Miss. You can see into the woods a nice distance. takes away a litte of their camo. I'm getting excited!!!!

The hunting beard is coming in. Yesterday one of the nurses at work said I looked like a lumberjack. Monday should be my last range trip before the season.

Still have to sight in my new scope. Me and dad are going to get that done before next weekend. I can't wait, I will actually be able to find the deer in brush. My other one I could only see them in the open. This new one is nice and bright and things are boom, right there. Woo Hoo!! Thanks Dad!

Better get to the range quick. they close them before rifle season, can't remember the exact dates but if you wait to long they will be closed.

I shoot at Minnetonka Sportsman's in Mound on Hwy 15. I can bring guests for free, but the rifle-range there is only 100 yards (I do any long-range shooting at the cabin). PM me if you ever need to get some range time in the cities.
You'll notice I said the "last" range trip before the season. I usually get out at least a dozen times in the two months before deer season. This is just to re-re-re-confirm zero, as I have been out shooting quite a bit this fall.
FWIW, I am sold on the Nikon Monarch fixed 4x scopes I put on a few rifles a while back. I have them on my (edit: one of my)30-30s and my .270, and this was the 4th year in a row that they have been nuts-on for EVERY cold-bore shot at sight-ins.
The one that matters though is the 2x Leuopold sitting on my 44 magnum Super Blackhawk. I am going with the handgun only this year. Well, that's what I say now.....
