that old truck either looks better than you make it sound or you take good pictures.

I like that you're using "yeller" pieces to patch in on the newer fenders. Just gives a feeling like yeller is still being let in on the project.

nice lookin work Dave!

I sighted in Kendra's rifle for some 100 gr partitions I loaded last year and never used. didn't have time to sight in my rifle so it looks like the 30-30 will be in service for the first weekend anyway. I don't feel prepared for deer season at all, but its here ready or not. hopefully the weather isn't wet and cold like it has been the last few days. just need to find a sitter for the little man for this weekend morning/evening

nope, I have my boy and the ex throws a fit anytime I try to go anywhere with him. 2nd weekend I'll be there though.
I'm gonna see if I can get Kendra a doe around here, the farmer I drove truck for said we can hunt one of his drainage ditch coulees. aint much but there are a lot of deer in the area and a lot of pressure so hopefully they use it as a travel route and we can get her one.

When we sighted in my scope we started with the Remington 130 grain that I have always used. And dad bought me some Federal Premium Vital Shok. Those were about 6 inches or so above the Remington. We sighted it in for those because that is what I will be using for deer season. So happy with the scope so far. We had major issues sighting my other one in last year and this one was no problem.

I shot some Federal Fusion's in my .280 and they shot awesome so I'm using those too.

I stepped into the yard about an hour ago to try out my new head lamp and there were 5 sets of eyes staring at me.

I shut the lamp off and listened for a while and I'm pretty sure I could hear a buck making a rub. I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning and take some pics if I get a chance. It was pretty cool.

My dad is home from Colorado now.

Quite a trip. He got his antlerless elk, they fought snow & high winds, very poor hunting overall. He was one of 2 out of 20 some hunter's in the public land area we hunt that filled his tag.

We'll see him at deer camp next week. He'll have stories of the hunt I'm sure.

Dvae, looks like the work on Ol Yellow is being conducted in some top secret location. I noticed PWM has a security pass around his neck. smile

Good news on the scope Missy. I've been using a Nikon on my 06 for about 5 years and really like it.

I've got several more trips to the range planned for the coming week. Need to fine tune the 6.5 and recheck the zero on the 06 and 45-70. My 87 year old Uncle will be joining me on Thursday to check the zero on his rifles.

Only 18 more days and we'll be headed to camp.

Here's what I found in the back.

The rub with the scrape is new, as in it wasn't there 2 days ago. Not sure on the other two with it. There is probably a dozen back there now.

Its hard to tell in this pic, but I'm guessing they're from this guy.

He is a big bodied buck, and has a tall rack. With the height of those rubs it makes sense.

Just dropped by to say hi. Work and life issues have sorta dominated this fall around here and hunting has been on the backburner more than I ever thought it could be. After catching up on this thread I suddenly feel rejuvinated. I haven't rubbed the coat rack yet, but at least the desire is starting to stir. Those pics of your backyard are great Tom! No wonder your coat rack is tore up....We are so far ahead timewise in the farming around here we have pretty much driven the farm deer to the Bayshore so the North Country is going to be the place this year. For those that get to go in a week Good Luck! Thanks for keeping the fire burning....

Tzone,

We found at least a half dozen scrapes at BoneHead Lodge in Floodwood. We also found several down trees across the trails. Hannah Bean, my 8 yo is getting better with the 10-22. She sure has got a quick trigger finger. We counted 21 deer on the drive over and back, they are definately on the move. Last one was a nice 8 point with a sligthly swollen neck, about 10 miles from home.

I don't have a coat rack to rub on, but the corner post on the deck is looking pretty tough;)

I've got rubs like that in the backyard too just to torment me, closest one is 15 yards from the house. They show up about 3 am and are long gone before legal light. I did set up a tree stand, they may get a little careless in a week or two.

Functionality is the goal here. I just mean to toughen the old truck up a little. Not a restoration, it's a plow truck so it's going to get used hard.
