My vote is a .22-250. You've already seen the results on coyotes, and stuffed with 62gr TSX, any deer within reasonable distance is in serious trouble.

Sam
This is the wrong forum for me to find fault with a .243 for deer. If I were shooting at a huge trophy KS whitetail at 400 yds, I would want something larger than a .243. There I said it, and now I'm ducking. Good luck.

With that much wear on that rifle grip and a Swift to boot, how many barrels has that thing gone through?

My pick would be 6.5*55! What can beat it? It shoots like a laser!, no recoil, wide range of projectiles and isnt too loud on the ears. You can get a mauser m38 or a m96 with full wood stock if you want a throw around rifle. Tough reliable and accurate!
Our F1-11 gets retired this week. What a shame.

John, I think the bottom metal is SWEET!
Anybody doubt Swampy has scratched a Remington logo in his bottom metal?

Hey Sam, I hate to say this because it may not be what you are wanting, but my AR rides "shotgun" more than any other. I put one of those MK AR Leupold's on it and worked up load that coincides with the turret. I was hitting rocks out to the 6 with it Saturday morning from a cold tube. They are fun and effective. Then again, my buddy's 30-378 was whacking rocks out to the 8 with an amazing out of ease... I think the Vanguard/Howa in .257 Weatherby would be tough to beat. I may just grab one myself. Travis

I wouldn't think you would need that fancy of a rifle to hit a truck at 400 yards??

340boy; Now I feel silly Tim, because I misread the intent of Sam's post. Now I know of 4 fellows who shot their trucks over the years, but when I think about it, none admitted to actually wanting to shoot the pickup. Have a good week Tim and all the best on your upcoming hunts. Dwayne

X-Bolt Hunter 7WSM topped 2x10 Nikon Monarch X with custom elevation dial. Ya'll go ahead and laugh at me, but it shoots better than I can. This was the best one of the day but most were 3.5-5.5" groups when i didn't screw up. JM

Well, finally looked at an Academy Outdoors flier that came the other day and they are selling 700 ADLs in .25-'06 w a 24-in. bbl. for $349.
Might have to get one for my youngest at that price for early Christmas.
For $50 more they got the Vanguards w/24-in. barrels in .243, .308, .270, .30 and .25-'06, and 7RM. They don't list the .257 Wby, but wonder if they could get one at that price...

Dude if you are going to shoot a truck....get a .458 WM. AS far as a truck gun what is wrong with the ubiquitous .308 Win?

Hoping those hit our local stores soon. I think a ADL long action may be my next build. Unless I bump into a .257 Vanguard... Travis

I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA
