my daughter is knee-deep in her 2nd big game season and has been having a great time. we have been fortunate enough to have pretty tremendous success so far. she's ready to start learning proper glassing techniques and use for binoculars.

since i don't want to spend a lot of money for her first pair of binoculars, but do want her to have something serviceable i was wondering about a set of 8x leupold yosemite binoculars. they come in a blister pack, which is probably my first sign to avoid them, but would like input from users...

any help??

I'd run the 6x Yosemite bino's over the 8x. The 6x are actually quite nice, plus you can get one in a cool color like mine...

There are many excellent binocular options under $150.00 or so. Please feel free to give me a call to discuss what would be best for her. Maybe the Vortex 6.5x32 Fury would be good? You do not say how old she is or where you're glassing, however, if she is just getting started a 6.5 power is easy to hold steady and is enjoyable to work with as well as good quality.

And of course Doug is top notch, which has never been in question, and a good source for all things glass.

daughter is 11 years old, and we are glassing the prairies, buttes, and river breaks of south dakota.

I, too will second the Leupold, either the 6x30 or 8x30.
Doug is giving it a try, but I would check one of these out.
Now, I must admit, I have purchased 2 binoculars from him this
past year., but not in this price range!!

In this price range, these will be just the thing.
Steelhead knows these well, get the pink or orange camo.
For me I like them black.

I like the Minox open box 8x42 for $119 from Doug, despite the color.
On the other hand, my daughter had the tan Yosemites in her hands all last weekend.

Here's a question for the Yosemite owners. Do they have the threaded hole for tripod attachment like other Leupolds on the center bridge? I doubt I'd ever use them on a tripod since they would be mostly for hunting timber and as an extra pair for my wife, but was just curious.
