I am going on a varminting (rabbits) trip at the end of the month with a group of other hunters and we are each required to wear something that 'stands out' given that there was an accidental shooting in New Zealand last week. The hunting will involve a lot of walking through the hills which are expected to be a 'target rich environment'.

I have worn blaze orange while deer hunting but was wondering if rabbits 'see' the same way deer do or whether the orange will send them hopping?

I would venture a guess that regardless of what the rabbits see, you'd better off to wear a vest than risk a fine or an errant bullet...

Private property so no potential fine but totally agree with your sentiment. Better safe than sorry, especially when there is a group of us. Was more a question out of interest as it may impact on tactics...

I have tons of rabbits around my house in the fields. They seem to absolutely not care about what I wear and scamper just about the same. I bet you will not see any difference in their response. And the science tells us, orange does not matter either:

Movement spooks game a lot more than color of clothing.

Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

Interesting article but I can't go along with the part about "us" having come from animals that could "swing" through trees.
Sure does make a lot of assumptions with statements like that.
Oh, I almost forgot. Wear the Orange....
