Trying to get the wife a nice camera, I dont know anything about them. Could you please tell me if this would be a good first camera for someone that is interested in photography?

it's certainly reasonable for an entry-level camera and kit lens.

It's a very good deal for entry level. Plan on getting other lenses, it'll set you up for her birthday, mother's day, anniversaries, and any other day you need to dig yourself out of the doghouse or get her a gift! smile

It's about $100 less at Amazon.com and it gets free shipping to boot. You'll have to get the camera kit & long lens separately there.

I'd be very happy with that one.

I have several Canon digital SLR cameras and a bunch of their len's. Buy her one. It's a great starting point. And you can get lot and lots of the older lenes and they will still fit it.
I love my Canon cameras. From the starter and very lightweight rebels to the more professional top line ones. They are great!

Mt dughter used a borrowed one at the wedding of a friend, and just loved it! She had only used P&S cameras before. NOW, she wants one!
