Well that leaves the possibilities wide open for everything except the chamber.
What blueprint do you have in mind? I like the idea of the 7saum for a beanfield rifle myself.

Remington should really push the 7SAUM a bit and try to get their own piece of the short mag pie.

todd - i think you'll like the 7 SAUM - it is a bad ass little cartridge. I've had a thing for the bigger 7 Rem Mag for 25+ years. My 7 SAUM has mostly replaced my bigger 7's. The 7 SAUM is only 50-100 feet slower than the 7RM with the same bullets out of similar length barrels. For example, my 140 Partition load moves out at 3125-3150 using H4350, my 160 Partition gets 2960-75 using H1000. Corresponding velocities in any of the 4-5 7RM I've had thgough the years get 3200 and 3000 with 140's and 160's.
The real bonus comes in the package. I have a matched pair of SS M700 with 24" barrels - 7 and 30 SAUM. With a Ti stock, talleys mounts, and a 3-9x40 VXII, they both weigh several ounces under 8 lbs all up - sling, ammo, scope caps, and blue tape on the barrel. They are a joy to carry and have enough mass to enable shooting offhand a non issue. They are a very good balance of power, pointability, portability, and shootability. My 7SAUM weighs 3/4 of a pound less and is ~ 3.5" shorter than my 26" barrel M70 SS Classic 7RM.
Enjoy.

cub - agree with you but the general public looks at the speed issue between the various cartridges available today. The 7SAUM is not the fastest 7 - nor the slowest. But when it comes to a balanced cartridge and platforms to house said cartridge, folks seemingly don't pay any attention. They quickly grab up the WSM or RM version because of the speed issue. What they fail to realize is the the SAUM case is not that far behind the WSM or RM versions. In fact, in order to make the WSM case outperform the SAUM case, you need to hopefully find a load that works at top end powder charges. I've had 2 300 WSM's, a 300 SAUM, and a 7 SAUM. I can get 3000 ft/sec using Re 17 under a 180 in the 30 SAUM and can break 3000 ft/sec using Re 17 under a 160 in the 7. My experience with 2 300 WSM's indicates that in my rifles, they preferred ~ 2950 for 180's in the 300 WSM. My current 30 SAUM load gets 2950 with a 180. Accuracy with Re 17 was more than acceptable - and reached 3000 ft/sec.
I dig them.

I'm thinking the 7 saum and 280 AI are a couple of the very best hunting 7mm's out there. About the only thing it comes down to is do you want a SA w/ 3 in the belly, or LA w/ 5...I full intended to build a 7SAUM out of the 300 I got from you a while back, but a buddy wanted it more. Now I've got a .280 MT rifle soon to be sitting in a Ti takeoff, so will scratch that itch first.

todd - i think you'll like the 7 SAUM - it is a bad ass little cartridge. this will be my third I picked up a Model 700 BDL SS in July 2003. Stupidly sold it in 2005. Nabbed a used Sendero SF last summer and its fun for long range target shooting but wayyy too heavy to hunt @ 11 lbs. Now I got a NIB 700 BDL SS en route, this time I won't let it go! Plan is a McMillan mtn rifle stock, Gretan shroud/pin, Talleys and a 3-9x40 VXII. Quite possibly will see a Pacnor tube if I can't get the factory barrel to group sub moa with Accubonds or TTSX or Scirocco's. Im sure it will shoot just fine. Also might get the bolt fluted just for cool factor Just got email from Nosler today, April 2011 is the scheduled run of factory 160gr Accubond ammo, apparently in Nosler custom brass. I'll order a bunch of that for the brass! Until then the 50 count of R-P will keep me going I'll keep updating this thread as it comes together

If Nosler is going to offer loaded rounds in 7SAUM maybe they will offer the brass as well? They already have 300SAUM brass.Monashee

Sounds good to me. Got mine slightly used earlier this fall. Got her in a McMillan Classic, Talleys and a 3200 3-9x40 that I had laying around. Now that it's a proven shooter, I'll be replacing the J lock shroud. I have a VXIII 3.5-10x40 on my .22-250 that I was going to put on the SAUM but I recently got a VXIII 4.5-14x40 with a B&C reticle at a good price that I might give a try instead.

Walker death trigger adjusted nicely down to about 2.5-3 lbs, no creep. I slapped a 3.5-10x40 B&C on it for now, loaded some 110gr TTsX over RL17. Get it sighted in and see if I can poke a whitetail with it in the next couple weeks. Placing McMillan order NOW

I took a model 7 in 7 SAUM to Mark Bansner and had it restocked and rebarreled with a Lilja 23" barrel. The rifle was coated on top of the stainless and it has a muzzle break. I'm shooting 140 grain Sierra's around 3200 and it shoots under an inch (4 shot groups). I used it to shoot the Texas Dall in my picture and one nice Whitetail so far. Lots of other guns to choose from so it "takes its turn".
